  • Just a suggestion – make sure it is what your kids want too. A family I know – he insisted they be home schooled and every single one of their kids utterly rebelled in their teens.

  • A great question and some fantastic answers

  • I really admire anyone that can do this. I am training to be a teacher, but feel as though I could never engage my children enough for it to be successful… Yet they sit quietly when other people attempt to instruct them.

  • Maybe you could try seeing if there is an interactive online schooling they can do – like they use for kids in remote areas. Otherwise I would probably send them to school if possible as I don’t think I could handle it 🙂

  • I home schooled for just one term back about 10 years. Hubby was posted to Germany for work and we joined him for 2nd term. The kids were 6, 8 and 10 years old. It was hard work keeping up with them! Also planning for 3 completely different year levels and learning styles was a challenge. No internet at all and minimal books. I think there are some great resources available for home schooling. We have had friend’s home school until the final 2 years of high school and the main thing they did was make sure the kids got involved in extra curricular activities to ensure they had some interaction with other kids. Things like scouts, basketball and book clubs. Good Luck! 🙂

  • I know of a few people who do it and love it buts thats as far as my knowledge goes

  • I think a lot of patience is required here. I don’t think I’d have been able to do this but good for you. I’m not sure who to ask, I hope you find the answers to your question & if you want to home school you do that, stick to your guns, it’s a personal choice 🙂

  • I am currently homeschooling my son due to an incident a few weeks ago that caused us to pull him out of school. I need ideas too.

  • If you want to do it, try and find some other mums/parents in your area who are doing it. That way you can learn from them and possibly get together with them for outings. For eg. My son goes to kinder gym and the homeschooling mums all bring their (primary age) kids in for a class once a week.

  • You would need to be extremely dedicated to ensure home schooling would work. Also you would need your child to mix with other kids a lot to develop the social skills they would need for life.

  • i think its a great idea as long as you can set your mind to it. still have fun but know you need to include outings and all educational tasks. you will need great discipline so the children understand its not playtime. there are good schools around and they are great for socolisation.

  • Is there a reason why your children need to be home schooled? If not, there are great schools, teachers out there who do a great job of educating our children in preparation for life. Children also attain confidence, learn to socialise with other children, team skills etc in a broader community. I know home schooling parents do meet to socalise, learn music, join sporting teams etc too but I myself would not have the confidence or educational qualifications to teach my children to the level schools do. Home schooling parents would be in a better position to advise you of the positives and negatives you may encounter.

  • I use a program on Tues and Thurs nights called Kinetic Education. My girls go to school but I feel they need to be doing more in the class then they actually are. I chose the Kinetic Education program as it is based on the school curriculum. It deals with Maths and English ( and when they get to high school it branches into various sciences as well). They get assigned homework for the week and have to have it done by Sunday. I sit down with them to work through it. I don’t think I could do this full time as I can get quite frustrated when something I think is so easy to get a hold of, they tend to struggle with. But this program is a big help and both are in the advanced groups now in their classrooms.

  • I have never had to worry about this. I think kids need to learn and explore from other families as well as the books

  • Send them to school….easy! We are so lucky in Australia to have so much choice and some really high quality schools and teachers.

  • Send them to school..easy!

  • You need someone to look after your baby during home schooling time.

  • I hope you find your answers here. Sorry I am inexperienced in this

  • I really don’t think I would cope lol that’s y I would always send my kids to school then I know they were doing the right learning for there age.. That’s just my option.
