Hello!

My sister accidentally dropped her baby from the bed she was barely 2 feet off ground, fell asleep whilst holding the baby, the baby cried then was normal. She has her 2 month visit next week, so what can happen?

  • This was always a big fear of mine. But it does happen to alot of babies. I’m sure bubs will be fine.. maybe if your sister was concerned she should have taken her to get checked out?? If bubs didn’t change during that time I would worry. Change I mean like go extreamely quiet or seizure ect..

  • I’m guessing the visit you’re worrying about is the health check up? Not sure what you’re expecting. Lots of babies are dropped with no issues, seems like that for this bub

  • Most people have dropped a baby, whether they want to admit it or not (and this comes from either the baby rolling off a change table, out of arms etc) best thing was the baby cried straight away. Maybe voice your concerns to your sister, and and if she isnt concerned then you shouldn’t be either. babies are super resilient, and I’m sure the baby is fine :)

  • I’m sure the baby is fine xx

  • Any concern is best to seek advice. For your piece of mind. Sometimes they can be happy and have minor fractures the eye doesn’t see. No one will judge, it can happen to anyone!

  • I remembered fearing the worst when my then 6 months old wiggled backwards off the change table while I reached for wipes in what was just a split second. I was told not to be alarmed as my child wasn’t even upset just a little shaken that he was jammed between the table & a cupboard head first!

  • Babies are surprisingly robust. I would say bubs is more than likely fine. The crying was probably a good sign, but obviously she needs to get checked over by a professional just in case.

  • Night be nest to call 13Health and talk to the RN there for advice.

  • If she is concerned you can call the nurse on call for your local hospital & she can talk you through how to check for injuries or simply take her in for a check up now.

  • This happened to me once ! I fell asleep whilst breastfeeding my son and he slid out of my arms…. luckily we had carpets ! Observe closely if you see any changes in baby and for peace of mind, just go to the doctors for a check up.

  • If she is worried I’d be getting her to take bubs to a go sooner than next week. Just for peace of mind and to make sure the baby is ok. She really needs to learn from this because accidents like these can be very serious, especially when she is falling asleep.

  • Well, it sounds like the worst (skull fractures, broken bones) haven’t happened. There could still be a brain injury; she should ask the nurse/doctor to check. I recognise that accidents do happen (especially when you’re exhausted), but maybe she needs to think about ways to minimise the risk of it happening again. Like sitting in the middle of the bed if she’s holding baby, perhaps.

  • Health Direct are great for advice if she wants to give them a call. They can advice whether she needs to get medical treatment sooner.

  • If she is worried tell her to take the baby to theGPsooner for a checkup
