Hello!

Please help me – I am trying to organise my pantry and I have tried several times to do this and it starts off great and I feel like I am getting somewhat organised but then it just gets messy again and everything falls on top of everything else and I end up just closing the door and not thinking about it until I need to find something and can’t.

I have bought containers and filled them up and try to organise the pantry in some sort of order and it works for about a week and then somehow it just gets super messy again and I feel like it is so unorganised. What tips or tricks do you have that you would like to share with me to help me tackle this once more?

  • I did this last pregnancy! I used Kmart’s tiered storage shelves for canned goods, easy to see everything at a glance and know what i need to order. Most of our pantry staples are in clear, labelled containers both the labels and containers are also from Kmart. For snacks or staples in bags or packets, we use the open-front wood crates from Bunnings and label the crate.

  • It might sound dopey, but label everything. That way other people don’t have an excuse to put things back where they DON’T belong. It also helps you. Make sure the things you – and others – use most frequently (like tea and coffee) are easily accessible, so they’re easy to put back too.

  • Use all the space you have all my baking ingredients flours, sugars, coconut sultanas etc live in plastic containers which are labelled and stacked not in the pantry but in a double cupboard under the bench this is called the baking cupboard.

  • I am a little obsessed when it comes to keeping our pantry neat. It got crazy out of hand so I went to Kmart and found some affordable little bamboo raised shelves and drawers to store things in. They have some great stackable drawers of different sizes which I found perfect to pop all of the baking items in, noodles, and kids snacks. Everything has its place now and is easy to find saving me a lot of time in the long run. It did take my a good 3 hours, cleaned all the shelving, sorted the cans and jars but it has been worth it.

  • I do love an organised pantry and have lots of storage containers to put things in. It is also a great way to keep the food fresh and find easily. I do admit, that at times it can still get messy but is so much easier to tidy up when most things are in containers. It just gets messy with some opened packages that don’t have containers like large chip packets. But I even have a large container for kids snacks (muesli bars etc for lunch boxes)

  • What makes you want to do this? It seems like unnecessary effort for you to live up to an unrealistic social media expectations. Why not leave the pasta in packaging? It saves you from having to put it in a jar, and remembering to refil the jar

  • It’s so rewarding once you’ve sorted your pantry but so hard to keep it sorted. I know ???? All I can suggest is to put things away where they should be every time. If you use something or buy something to go in there, don’t just dump it, place it where it’s meant to go. It helps and it’s not too hard

  • Kmart have the best organisers!

  • I try not to stock up on too much variety of things and keep it down to the essentials. Apart from being more organised, I find it also saves me money by not spending on things we don’t really need!

  • My trick is to have a container/jar for most things, label them (Kmart sell affordable labels) and also get bigger tubs for all the miscellaneous snack things. I found that the messiest part were the kids’ snacks etc. So I use big tubs to put all those in and it keeps the pantry uncluttered.

  • My pantry was like this. The trick is to be more disciplined. Put things where they need to go, don’t just dump things in there to put away later

  • My pantry gets like this too! Especially when my partner cooks or my kids grab snacks. Nothing is ever put back in the right place.
I really love the turn tables I bought. They save me knocking over bottles when trying to get or see something in the back! Very convenient.

  • Turn tables are a great way to have things neatly packed but easily visible when needed.

  • I feel like this also happens to me, it’s hard wen you are time poor and in a rush, maybe have once a week where you organise it again

  • That is me with most cupboards in my house!! I find that trying different methods or groupings help. Eventually I find one that makes sense and becomes easier to keep on top of

  • I try to put things that I don’t use often or have a longer shelf life higher in the pantry and the things I use more often or those that have to be used first on eye level shelf and I use clear containers from Kmart that I can easily see the contents.

  • I have all canisters with open contents in the cupboards above my bench area – where i can reach up and get them easily as I cook. Spices in draws near the stove top. All opened items in cupboards near where I use them (cereal, tea, coffe). Biscuits in the biscuit barrel. The pantry is only for unopened items – extra flour, sugar, cans, etc.

  • When you put things back in the right place you actually never have to tidy

  • We use Tupperware modullar mates, I have also been looking at getting some pull out shelving systems on runners, so that I can see everything in a line. If you put things back as you go, it’s the only way to keep it tidy. Admittedly, this can be hard without the right equipment.

  • I agree with the comments about being disciplined and returning everything to the right place. In the end it does save time and sanity.
