Hello!

I have the worst cockroach problem. I have the big and the small ones. They are in the beds, in the clothes cupboards and drawers, in the fridge and freezer and I wake up to them running across me in the middle of the night! I have bombed the house numerous times, I have surface sprayed, laid baits, used electric power plug emitters and in the last two months I have had the professional exterminators (two different companies) come and spray the house.
Help please… They are driving me round the bend. I have no option to move so I have to deal with them and I don’t want to live with them. I have a baby who is five months old and I have started standing at the edge of the cot at night because I have found cockroaches crawling in her bassinet. Please don’t think we are dirty because we aren’t, I vacuum twice a day now and I have thrown out so much furniture ( even our lounge suite) to try and reduce the places they hide etc. I am at the point of crying every time I think about the cockroaches. I mean if an exterminator can’t get rid of them who can? Please help I am beside myself…

  • I make my own home-made traps and that tends to keep the numbers down.

  • I’m so sorry to hear about this awful situation. Apart from keeping food in containers and the house tidy, all you can do is set traps/baits and keep persisting.

  • Oh no, that sounds awful !!
I have good experiences with Diatomaceous Earth. Personally I prefer natural remedies first.

But when that doesn’t help you could get your house treated by pest control.

  • They do come in when it is hot for water. Ensure no leaks.

  • I set traps for them and the traps catch lots of them. I get clean pasta or jam jars and rub a little vaseline along the top rim and down about 5 centimetres. Then I place half a teaspoon of ground coffee in each jar. I place the jars in dark cupboards, near skirting boards etc and the following morning the jars will have cockroaches in them that crawl in because of the coffee smell but cannot get out because of the vaseline at the top of the jar. I then place the jars in the laundry tub and half fill them with boiling water. The boiling water kills the cockroaches instantly and I then tip them out into the garden. I then clean the jars and repeat.

  • I’m thinking of getting one of those pest free electronic devices, but I don’t know if they really work.

  • I had a problem when l moved into a rental and l had to get a professional in,thank god!

  • Poor you; I know this sounds awful; but is there a nest somewhere? May be worth investigating?

  • yeah get a good treatment option. if you are renting, the landlords will usually go for the cheapest option just so that they can say that the place has been spayed. Get cockroach bombs and put them under the stove, fridge etc away from bub. Surface spray outside the house around doors and windows, don’t forget around the garage door. Eliminate junk and food scraps. Being vigilant is pretty much required. Don’t stress too much

  • hope you get it sorted for your bubby. it sucks having those pests

  • Good luck!

  • Oh no. I really feel for you and can’t imagine how frustrating this would be. I really hope you are able to gather some good advice. I am very sorry that I do not have any, other than to seek info of natural based remedies and give them a go if you can. GOOD LUCK!

  • I hope you found an answer for this I think we all have the same problem once in a while.

  • i hope you found a fix for this

  • block off any possible entry holes and get back onto those exterminators

  • I’d be getting on to another company that does exterminations. No-one should have to live with a hideous problem like you’ve got, especially if your house is clean and well maintained. And check the paperwork that you would have signed/received from the 2 companies you used, because they should have some sort of guarantee of their work.

  • I’ve been thinking about your problem with cockroaches. Do you have lots of indoor plants? I don’t know it this could be the problem, but just today I noticed a baby cockroach in the leaves of an orchid plant I have inside. Just a thought. Hope you solve your problem soon.

  • oh dear I really feel for you. We had a horrible mouse problem in our house and it took a while to get under control. first they were all through our pantry and everything had to go into containers. I picked up my box of cereal one day and a mouse literally jumped out of it. My husband went around and sealed the pantry which slowed them down and we had traps but it took months of sealing and expanding foam in holes and we were down to the odd couple. then he found that there was a gap behind the skirting board and since that has been filled they have slowed down. we did have cockroaches and slugs coming in during this time as well – I guess they came in the same places.

  • You poor thing, it sounds terrible. Perhaps your local council will be able to recommend a pest control company that can effectively deal with this. Were the companies you used especially equipped to deal with cockroaches? Good luck, I hope you find a solution soon.

  • Trying to seal the gaps where they get in would be the first step but I would definitely be getting back onto the exterminators.
