After living in many rentals I just put return to sender on any mail not addressed to me and hand in at the post office.

I live rurally so house are quite a distance apart. I feel I get a letter with the wrong address, I usually pop it into a letterbox next time I come across one

Most people return a letter to the PO if is not there’s!

If the postman made a mistake and put a letter in our box that was for a totally different address I would just pop in back in the mail. if it was my address and that person didn’t live there I would RTS. If we moved to a new place and the old tenant got mail I give it a week before RTS (give it to the real estate agent to forward on).

I generally deliver the letter to the address especially if it is not far away. If it is the wrong suburb or state I take it to the post office and they fix it all up!

I would personally bring it to you if it wasn’t that far, even if it was by driving. Some people are just pure lazy & I can’t get over the fact someone wouldn’t do that for you. I received someone’s letter a couple months ago, the street names were quite similar but it was approx 10 mins away. I took my daughter’s for a walk & we took it to the persons house. It was an elderly couple so they were very grateful.

yeah, I usually just drop it off if it is close. otherwise I pop it into the post office or box for redelivery (not return to sender)

Depends – if the address was close, I’d hand deliver it, if not I’d write not at this address or RTS and pop it back in the post or hand it back to the post office advising them of their error. At least it was returned to your mother and not lost or thrown out.

It really doesn’t take a lot of effort to put the letter in a mailbox, or drop it off at the post office. If the address isn’t far from where I live, I drop the letter in the letter box of the correct address. It’s what any reasonable person would do.

funny this came up as I got one today which is totally wrong and I will take it back to the post office tomorrow as I have some other mail to post. If it was near I would take the dog for a walk and deliver it but this is a good half hour drive away so back to the post office with it.

I understand popping a letter back into the post to be redelivered, but to write ‘Return to Sender’ or ‘Not At This Address’ on a clearly wrongly-delivered piece of mail? That’s what I don’t understand – after all, it was clearly addressed to a different street entirely!
