Crates are really important for creating boundaries and with toilet training.
finding the right reward for when the puppy does good things is important too – sometimes its a food treat, sometimes it’s playing with a ball.
Also, I think it’s SUPER important to remember that puppies need a lot of sleep – like 18-20 hours. An over tired puppy is not something you want to have on your hands.

Puppy pads, teething toys and an endless supply of patience

I dont like the crates. They are physically limiting and restricting. Just makes me think how I’d feel not being able to move around. If you’re going to get a puppy, look into adopting. You may be better off budgeting for puppy training that will save you loads in the long run in not having to buy teared up beds etc

there are so many items you need. You need warm dry place for the puppy to sleep, if you dont want it to get in certain areas you need to make sure your back yard is secure and it cant escape. Puppy food high in protein is essential and high in fat puppy milk. Most of all you need to give the puppy loads of understanding love and time. Get a collar on it straight away so it will be use to it and also on a lead, so when covid restrictions come off and you take it to puppy school it will be use to these items. Another thing I consider very important: pet insurance.

Crate training isn’t necessary. You mainly need lots of time for puppies. And money as they need regular vet checks. You’ll also need lots of love to give. And if you don’t intend making puppy a part of your family, don’t get one! By that I mean, it shouldn’t be left alone for long periods. It shouldn’t be chained all day or not allowed inside. It’s not disposable if you get tired of it or you move or it’s too naughty. A pet is for loving for life!

My husband had made a pen and we kept our puppy in there during the night or during the day if we couldn’t check on him. We had a bed for him, two aluminium bowls, some toys, a brush, a nail cutter, poo bags, leash, collar, a water bottle for outside, food and treats. I don’t remember much more than that.

Not everyone does crate training. Make sure you have food essentials, puppy pads etc.
