Hello!

Recommendations for apps to help improve speech? My 3 year old boy has slight speech delay, and we are unable to start speech pathology for a couple of months. I have information sheets and strategies from the pathologist, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any iPad apps that may assist his speech development? He enjoys the iPad time he gets so I thought it might be another way to help him?! Thanks in advance.

  • I would have a chat with your speech pathologist but Im guessing there are some greats apps available, particularly ones that allow the child to hear their own voice played back, even tom the cat would help!

  • my two year old is bit delayed too. we were referred to early intervention by our MCHN and GP, and its working really well. have you tried it. wish u all the best

  • Hope you found some. I don’t think anything beats one on one time taking
    To them though :)

  • Some good suggestions for others who are also interested (like me)

  • Did you manage to find any good apps?

  • my daughter is going through the same

  • Some really good answers here already

  • What apps did you end up finding?

  • Good suggestions below – hope you find one that is suitable.

  • Did you find any that you like?

  • The one called Articulation station is very good.

  • There is an app called proloque2go, unfortunately it’s $200 but my son used it when he was non-verbal, and my younger son has used it to learn how to speak. You can use it to make sentences and it has almost everything you could say, if there is a particular word that you use a lot it can be put on home page and there is also a way to add your own words

  • put phonics labels tar titty tar brpken into speech attern on all in hoom door chair make cards to match do in two languages if you are multi lingual

  • you could also ask the speech pathologist what they recommend as they might have a programme which complements what they are teaching your child too.

  • I hope you find the answers that you are looking for

  • My speechie recommended the apps that repeat back like duke dog and talking rabbit and there is a cat one too. Try to find one that your little one engages with

  • Now you have me interested too I will be watching for the answers to this. ….it’s a brilliant question..

  • Get him to face you so you can show him the proper tongue placement for sounds. We had 2 do speech therapy for years, and it was repeatedly showing them proper tongue placement. We gave lots of praise so they didn’t get frustrated, and gave rewards such as doing an exercise then playing a game.
