Hello!

I have found it really difficult to settle back in to the day-to-day routine after returning from holidays. How do other people cope with the return to reality?

  • Also, make sure your reality is one that is positive to get back to. I love going on holidays but I also love my home and the energy in it

  • ease into it and make sure you realise that it takes time.

  • I would trip myself up with thinking i would be completely relaxed and ready to go back to work/normal routine the day after a holiday. You are in relaxation mode and most definitely need at least 2 days to get home, regroup and slowly start getting things done.

  • Everything doesn’t have to be done all at once. As you are motivated, do the urgent things first, then gradually catch up on your routine. Take time out to go to the movies, relax. We all experience some sort of down time when holidays are over, thats normal.

  • unfortunately you have to so life sucks some times.

  • reality sux when it sets in it will just take time.

  • Start planning the next holiday!

  • There is no way to deal with it, then to just get back to your normal routine as quick as possible! It seems exhausting the first couple weeks but you gradually sink into it.
I remember coming home from a family holiday overseas and finding our hot water system had died…it was a Saturday!! Not a nice welcome home! But we just had to move on (I thank my besti who lived next door…her help made it so much more easier!)

  • As someone said plan a few fun things to do as a family over the next couple of weeks. Gives you something to look forward to. You could also start thinking about what you’d like to do for your next holiday!

  • Unfortunately you just have to get back into your same routine as before. That’s life lol 🙂 the quicker you do the easier

  • take your time and enjoy the feelings from your holiday, life doesn’t have to go back to being a stressful time

  • Totally normal… Trick is to just get right back into it.. pretty soon it will be like you never had a break lol

  • SIgn…unfortunately this is normal… The only way I find helpful is just to give it a few more days. Ease back to daily routine slowly 🙁

  • We always struggle to get back into the day to day, but I find that it helps if we get some routine things happening the week before school and work go back it is a little easier. But I also find that we suffered from the blues in the week or so that routine things start again so I try to plan things in advance to look forward to

  • It takes a while for me too. I think the idea below about setting a goal for another holiday is a great idea. You could also arrange a few “fun” things to do over the next few weeks to help shake the “post holiday blues” too.

  • Set a goal and focus on your new holiday. This way you will get motivated and also there would be something to look forward to as well.

  • It can be hard to land back in reality after a lovely holiday, I guess it’s a matter of creating goals and focusing on hitting them each day.

  • Hi Betty, Plan your day-to-day routine the night before or at breakfast on a calendar to help get things done.
Make sure there is a little time for you to catch up with friends and family in there somewhere during the week,
Coffee morning or afternoon on Wednesday is my sanity. Washing, ironing, cleaning, shopping etc.. is not so bad
when you have a outing to reward all this mundane work.
