Hello!

How do you scare away spiders? I know this might sound silly but I hate spiders and hate the thought of them in my house. Are there any tricks to keep them out of the house without having to kill them? I have heard of stones you can put in the corner of rooms but don’t know if this is true or not?

  • Depending on where you live and what type of spider. Black house spiders eat white tail spider young and vice verca. I don’t like either. Spray the outside of your house with Mortiene outside spray every 6-12 months. Works well. Vacum cobwebs and dady-long legs up before they have babys. Try and keep wood heaps away from the house.

  • Get your house fumigated- you wont see a spider for 12 months!

  • i use the mortein spray both inside and outside my house and it lasts for months. pull everything out your cupboards at the bottom to get the full benefit. you have just reminded me its that time of year and i need to re spray!

  • I usually get my hubby to spray the outside of the house with mortein outside spray – it’s meant to stop them from entering for six months. Love the tip about citrus though I may use that also…as I’m absolutely terrified of spiders lol!!

  • Cover a soft broom with old panty hose and then spray on lemon juice. Wipe this around the cornices and top of each wall. Also around windows and doors. Apparently spiders don’t like citrus. It seems to work here, and it sure is better than chemicals if you can help it. Also if you see a cobweb wipe if away.

  • Hope some of these ideas help

  • Pest control, or their is a do it yourself Mortimer one from the shops I haven’t personally used that one but my dad does and reckons its fantastic

  • I don’t fancy spiders too. I’ve been catching it with containers and throwing them outside the house. Seems futile and they are back again within a few days. I’ll try the lemon as suggested…

  • Hope you were able to solve the problem with all the useful tips

  • I was doing a little bit of internet browsing and read that some spiders such as redbacks are attracted to lights…Don’t leave outdoor lights on any longer than necessary and maybe that will at least keep that variety away!

  • Haha you did make me have a giggle. No I am afraid they shall not be scared away! However if you get all the spiders out using a broom and then surface spray the corners of your ceilings it will deter them. They are hard get rid of, after all this is Australia. They had the hide to come in only and hour after we freshly painted a room and try and settle again! Also, don’t be scared of them, they really are not anything to be worried about. Cockroaches on the other hand…well they make me have the heebie jeebies! LOL

  • I doubt that spiders can be scared away. Unless you are willing to catch them yourself like my father does, pest control seems to be the only way.

  • I used to (havent done it in a while and need too) use an outside barrier spray, all around the house, doors, window etc, the walk over it to get inside and if they make it in they dont last long….I must get onto that myself now the weather is warming up!!

  • The only thing I think works is the pest control man

  • I hate spiders too and can’t be in a room with a really hairy huntsman. Apparently they can be territorial and once they’ve set up home, they truly believe it’s their home…so if you catch it (or someone else can get it) you have to release it quite a way from your house or it will come straight back. Surface insect spray annoys them.

  • I get my houe sprayed once a year because I am terified of spiders, but be aware this does not completely stop all spiders. They only guarentee the webbing spiders not the ones that run around like huntsmans, it will slow them down though.

  • Thanks for all these informative tips

  • I use lemons. Spiders hate lemon I make sure I keep cut up lemons in my garden and I use lemon in my sprays out side…..

  • Get some mortein bombs and let loose! They won’t kill them just put them to sleep for a while. Ok maybe a long while but if they didn’t have a death wish they would stay outside.

  • I have that auto spray that’s inside the house by mortien. It’s wonderful and no smell.
