Hello!

Can someone pls tell me why I am scared to let my 16 month old drop to one sleep a day, not sure whether I am worried that because he wakes at 6 am that 12 would be too late for a sleep as he will then get overtired before his 7pm bedtime. Please help.

  • I know I hated it because it gave ME one less chance to sit down, or get something done during sleep time. You do adapt pretty quickly, though.

  • you’re scared because you’ll miss that ‘me’ time. Fair enough too!

  • I would say you’re a little stressed about losing your little bit of me time. But it does seem a long day for a little one if they only have one sleep from 6am to 7pm. Maybe it’s too early?

  • Because its one step closer to getting zero time to yourself.

  • It’s probably the change it routine and how he will cope, but he seem’s ready for just one nap. My son’s 14 months and has changed now to one nap but it’s now a long nap compared to before :) it actually made it easier for me as he would have a nap around 10 or 11 then want another around 3-3:30 when i had to get my other son from preschool so he would fall asleep in the car and i would have to wake him all the time

  • You’re probably scared that a change in routine will seriously mess up your child’s sleeping habits (day and night). My daughter started daycare when she was 15 months and she was still on 2 sleeps a day. Initially, only one of her centres did two sleeps per day. Somehow she managed her one sleep days. We continued with two sleeps over the weekend.

She’s 20 months now and she still often does 2 sleeps over the weekend. We just watch her and see how she goes. If she seems tired enough, then we give her two sleeps. It’s working out okay. It doesn’t appear to be a big adjustment for her, more for me!

  • Each and every child is different, it will work out!!

  • there are some good comments here

  • my daughter 3 has just stopped her naps and is going to bed at 7 to read then at 730 is sleep time

  • How is he going with just 1 sleep a day now ?

  • how is he going now?

  • So many stages of change in such short succession can be a scary thing

  • How is he going now?

  • Probably cause your little boy’s growing up

  • How are you going with it now?

  • Maybe consider dropping it back until after 12:30/1pm… Then you don’t have such a long afternoon. And hopefully this will promote him to sleep in until 7 or so int he morning

  • They are all so unique and sometimes fighting it can be very difficult and they just settle into their own natural patterns anyway after a while

  • My daughter had given up all sleeping during the day at this age, it did make her more sleepy at night and she slept in more.

  • You work out a way, mine wake up about 7am have a sleep about 1pm and go to bed about 7.30pm

  • All 3 of my Kids didn’t want to have 1 sleep during the day after the age of 18mths! I got tired of fighting it and just let them stay up all day, lol. The beauty of that was they went to bed earlier at night because they were so tired :)
