I wouldn’t stress my son wasnt talking much at that stage either, his just turned two, and he has picked up a lot more words and forming two word sentences now. A very big difference in just two months.
All kids are different and pick up things at different stages it’s early days and plenty of time left until you should worry.

Mine was the same and she’s fine don’t stress!

I have now seen 3 kids who started talking late but they’re perfectly fine …just started late.

While it never hurts to talk to your doctor, I had the same concerns with my daughter who no doesn’t stop talking. She was well over 2 before she started saying much and now her vocabulary it huge. We read lots of books together and I think this helps.

My second daughter didn’t really have any words until shortly after 2 but she was prone to ear infections and I was having the same worry as you. We saw a pediatrician/maternal child health nurse and they organised hearing test and we saw an ENT specialist as well, all was well.

But as soon as she hit 2 years old, it’s like her vocabulary just exploded and now at almost 3, she would not stop talking!

He is still little, I would give him sometime yet.

If its just speech dont worry about it but if you notice some other things which worries you like the social interaction, eye contact, flapping hands, spinning the head then check with the gp, my son has developmental issues which we realise only after he turn 2.5, so its better to get checked if some thing worries you.

Do some of the people around him talk quickly? It may make it harder for him to learn to talk. ONe of ours didn’t starting talking much until she was over 2. At 2 1/2 months she suddenly started talking really well and very soon started making full sentences and talked as well as a 4 y.o. People could believe ‘how much full conversation she could understand and reply to. Everybody thought she was a short in height 4 y.o…….Does your son go to daycare at all? As a general procedure some do an assessment which gauges the various stages of development a child is. One report we got was one of ours wouldn’t stick her tongue out – not something we encouraged or taught at all

I wouldn’t worry too much just yet. Give it til his second birthday and if you’re still worried speak to either your child health nurse or your gp

Speech can be effected by both mental and physical development. If your child’s vocal cords aren’t as developed, then speech will occur later.
However at this age it doesn’t seem too much of a worry. By the second birthday, every week will be a jump in speech. As long as there is progression, then it is developing.

Getting flash cards and reading alot can help, asking your maternal health nurse they can give you some advise

it never hurts to ask your gp for an opinion – there might be something really small that is holding him back – if ever in doubt dont every worry about asking people for advice – as a new mum your gut tells you things and in all honesty if your gut tells you something you should listen and check it out even for your own peace of mind. I am sure your little guy will be ok -

I wouldn’t stress too much at this stage, he’s still only young. But f you’re too worried, visit your GP and see what they say, just to put your mind at ease

I have been here. I noticed at about 18 months my daughter wasn’t saying anywhere near as much as other kids her age. I try not to compare but my gut was telling me get it checked out. She’s now 2 and a half and in speech therapy and has improved dramatically. I’m so glad I intervened early. Trust your gut mumma. It never hurts to get an assessment. And if bub needs intervention it is best to be prepared and get onto it sooner rather than later.

All kids get there in their own time. If its stressing you out I’d recommend getting his hearing checked by a professional. Even if its just slightly out it can have huge consequences and late speech is a huge warning sign.
