Hello!

I a mum of a toddler and am currently studying my diploma of tourism which I’ve had to start over due to the course changing (long story) and I am thinking of doing my diploma of events as well but I am unsure if I am being to ambitious with a toddler, part time work and 2 diplomas. I want to know what other mums think?
Thank you

  • My experience is that once you’re in the rhythm of a study and feel you can do it, it may be good to keep going and hold on to the rhythm.

  • If you feel up to it :-) I’m not currently motivated to study so couldn’t take on that much myself. See what your options are regarding deferring if need be

  • As long as your other priorities are not suffering, I would try it. If you find you cannot handle it, you can always drop the diploma and go back to it another time.

  • If you have the energy and you are currently not working , it may work out . I used to work part time and even that was enough . Later on I had to go back to fulltime and then the kids were a bit older. If you can do go for it because at te moment you sound very motivated and keen . If you can juggle your lifestyle and family around it why not , it is something you will enjoy and that is a plus .

  • You’re already studying with a toddler, so you know what it’s like. I would give it a go, you may as well and you seem to be coping ok with your current study

  • Give it a go, better to have tried and failed then to not try at all. You may surprise yourself and cruise through it all. Good luck, hope you do it

  • depends how much time you put into assessments and how quickly and motivated you find yourself. I did a uni degree at home in combination with a Cert IV in TAE. It was difficult but I was able to do it as I really enjoyed what I was doing.

  • Wow, all I can say don’t let the time with your child lapse. You don’t want to think, where has the time gone, when did they grow, I was always too busy.

  • I am currently starting a diploma course. I have 2 toddlers and 1 at school. I also work a very minimal amount. I am going to finish this course and then do another. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. I also want to enjoy time with my family. It is really your choice as you are the one who knows you capabilities and limits. I hope that you do get to compete both courses. Good luck.

  • Just do one at a time, that way you will not be overwhelmed and will get the maximum out of each course. This also will give you time for unexpected surprises, like b’day parties and children getting sick. good luck it was the tortoise that won the race not the hare. I’m sure you will complete both courses but my advice is one at a time.

  • it dosent hurt to try. there is no harm in it. just go for it while you can

  • Just give it a go and if it gets too much just take time out..

  • You can only try & it’s certainly going to be tough at times, however it sounds like you have the drive & motivation behind you.

  • I think that it is great that you want to pursue your studies even though you have a family to raise. It may be tough at the moment but think about the rewards you gain when you have achieved your goal and received your diplomas. Good on you for trying.

  • Personally I would give it a go and hope for the best! Specially if you have a view to expanding your family at some stage, life is a great deal easier when you have one child to love and care for.

  • Depends how much help you have or can get from friends and family if you need it. And how many hours a week you’re working too. Better to do a few things well, rather than overload yourself and struggle to succeed. But only you know how well you’re doing with study now, and whether you have the time and energy to take on more.

  • go for it you can study and have the kids and you might as well take the time to get as much behind you as you can so you can get the job you want when you decide to start work.
