Hello!

Arghhhh, I am dreading tomorrow’s weather. My 2 year old son loves being outside, but he is a horror when he is inside. What do other parents do to keep there active toddlers happy indoors?

  • Make together a cardboard cubby house with empty boxes, let your imagination go wild. let him draw. stick stickers or paint it. Fun for days not hours I find, great for rainy days.

  • Soke good suggestions here but I didn’t see if anyone recommended play centres? I often meet friends at rsls that have a playroom

  • Lego and Cooking, I have a 2 year old daughter and it is so hard. She is into cutting (she is nearly 3) so maybe he might like some craft?

  • Winter is so hard with a toddler! I just bought our rocking horse inside which is helping and we have a pram and a push cart he loves to push up the passage. Play dough, bubbles, building blocks, drawing, movie, build a cubby (even if it’s just under the kitchen table). bring the baby bath into the bathroom and let her bath her dollies (with supervision of course). Or visit the local library, café with play area. Rug up and feed the ducks, go to the playground, visit the botanic gardens. Good luck and bring on Spring!

  • let him draw put movies on

  • Its all part of the terrible twos and will pass

  • little boys like lego. or duplo

  • Do something social that you don’t often do… Get out some playdoh, or let him splash in a lukewarm bath.

  • Mine loves water, so if it’s an indoor type of day I run a very small bath for her and she will happily sit and play, she also loves books, and blocks hope this helps

  • Buy raincoats and gumboots and go out anyway, he will love splashing in the puddles! or, books, puzzles, lego, baking.

  • you can have a kiddies pool in the backyard in the shade for them to splash in

  • Blocks, blocks, blocks have been our saviour, Wiggles too, drawing, painting. Play dough have all worked for us :-)

  • Hand and foot painting, read him books, play music and dance, boats in the bath tub

  • paper, pencils and paint on a plastic mat, building blocks, his favourite dvd or toys

  • Let he watch some movies or play cars with him. Also get some paints and pencils and let him draw on bits of paper if he can use a pencil

  • I agree witht he cool bath and lots of pouring toys – my son loves funnels, cups, bottles, squirters etc (sause bottles are fun!)

I just mentioned in another post that he also loves tipping ice blocks out of moulds and putting them back in – he gets soaked and cool! We have star shaped and Garfield silicon ice-block trays that make it even more fun, he also counts them, stacks them, slides them across the table – all cool fun :)

  • Run a slightly cooler than usual bath (or shower if you don’t have one) and spend some time playing and splashing

  • My DD loves watching cartoons. So when times comes for me to take a break, I turn TV on. Both of us feels good.

  • Inside cubby house, under the dining table, complete it with a picnic.
If you are able to, bring the outside in- the little push bikes, basketball hoop with a soft ball.
    Ten pin bowling inside
Play dough, painting, drawing and other craft
Head into the bathroom and have some water play.

  • Don’t stop him going outside… kids don’t feel the heat or cold like adults do. He’ll want to come back in when he feels uncomfortable.
