Hello!

You know where pots boil over, fat splatters etc and it cooks onto stove top? Tips needed on how to easily and effectively cleaning it. I’ve tried scourer and a knife to scrap it, too many scratches. Made a paste of bicarb and lemon juice, applied and let sit……didn’t work. HEEEEELLLLLLLLP

  • Once you clean it up, make a habit to wipe over it regularly. I do it daily and it has helped make a big difference by staying on top of it.


  • I always spray with a spray & wipe solution and let sit for 5 minutes then I use a scraper like the type used on ceramic top cookers. Then rub over with a soft/fine scourer.


  • I use koh so so often! It’s amazing just let it sit for a while and then clean it and the rest of the stove! No streak marks and leaves it sparkling


  • Melamine sponge? Vinegar and bicarb paste? Oven cleaner?


  • I like to deal with it as soon as it happens. We have a ceramic top. 1) If I spot a pan boiling over I’ll remove it from the hot ring and get water on the spill asap. It fizzes a bit but seems to dilute the spill. 2) Then I may try wiping with a cloth if the ring has cooled enough with the water. 3) After cooking I find that keeping the surface a little warm makes the remaining burnt mess come off better with scraper (but being ceramic scratching is less likely). 4) Then a regular surface cleaner… if I was cleaning a gas top stove or electric stove I think things might be a little different!


  • White vinegar mixed in with water in a spray bottle. Make sure you let it soak for about 15 minutes and then wipe it down. White vinegar does wonders, combined with baking soda works for many cleaning jobs.


  • To clean your stove top or even your oven, I read that a professional cleaner just uses detergent and gets it into a lather and leaves for a while and then cleans it off. Apparently she uses detergent for absolutely everything she cleans. If she has really hard things to clean she’ll make a paste of BiCarb and vinegar and in the bathroom BiCarb and peroxide instead of bleach.


  • Gumption can often work with a bit of elbow grease and soft scourer. May have to give it a couple of goes. Also depending on stove top it can sometimes help if it is slightly warm when cleaning but be careful if using any chemicals that could be flammable etc.


  • When I clean my oven, I save a little bit of the spray/liquid and put it on my ceramic stovetop. It is the only thing that gets the baked on food stuff off. I leave it for about 20 minutes and then wipe off. I make sure I wait for a relatively cool day, because you want to have the windows opened and lots of airflow.


  • Bar Keepers Friend powder is the best on my Stainless Steel stove top as it removes the discolored area without scratching!


  • I pour some white vinegar on it and let it sit for about an hour.
    The kitchen doesn’t smell great but it does come off after that.


  • These tips are great, I know prevention is better then cure, but its the mess that needs cleaning from these spills. Then prevention will be put in place. Just bought a house and the oven/stove top is a mess


  • I tried Method Multi-purpose Cleaner Pink Grapefruit at a friend’s house. I loved it so much I bought it myself. I’m on my 2nd bottle. Great at cutting through grease. I bought mine this week @ $4 on Special at Woolies.


  • The trick is to clean up as soon as you’ve finished cooking. If you leave it a few hours or overnight, or worse you cook again while its not clean, then all the oil and splutter will sink in and make it a very difficult task to clean.


  • If you can put foil around it to let the spills land on it after you clean the stove. I usually use jiff on the spill but make sure you wet it before you put the jiff on and leave on for about half a our and then use a scoured to clean it all up and the other thing I use is spray and wipe and the stove when come nice and shinie, the other thing I sometimes just put detergent straight on the area and leave for few minutes and then use a scourer to move it with a bit of warm water just elbow grease is needed.
