Hello!

Does anyone suffer from plantar fasciitis? I have recently been getting a lot of foot pain and believe I have this as I have had it in the past. Does anyone have any tips or things they have used that have worked? Social media offers a variety of options but I am not sure how good any of these actually are. I know I should go see a foot specialist about it but I just can’t seem to get an appointment for a time that I can make work so thought I would see if I can sort this out myself.

  • While it is a prevalent foot condition, it’s crucial to recognise that several other conditions can mimic its symptoms. These include heel spurs, tarsal tunnel syndrome, Achilles tendinitis, stress fractures, and bursitis.
Most people who have plantar fasciitis recover in several months with conservative treatment, such as icing the painful area, stretching, and modifying or staying away from activities that cause pain.

  • I had to seek treatment and strategies from my GP on dealing with this issue. It is always a very good idea to seek professional help and services for feet. We spend so much time on them and using them. It is some important to have a personalised treatment plan.

  • As a running mum with plantar fasciitis, a combination of rest, wearing runners (no bare feet) and stretching by pointing your toes (like a ballerina), 10 times morning and night daily.

  • I had a heel spur for a time (that’s the same thing?) and it was incredibly painful. I had no idea what was wrong and thought I had I had a hip issue! The doctor gave me some very basic exercise to do involving stretching against a wall. I was very sceptical but it worked in no time. I know others who had the same. Maybe google exercise for heel spurs. You’ll be surprised.

  • Search bjsm plantar fasciitis and it will take you to a systematic review for best management. Skip down to the best practice guide for recommendations. I had suspected I currently have this but my med husband doesn’t believe it matches but gave this article a squiz last night.

  • To be honest I think this is really something you should visit your doctor for.
To help treat pain caused by plantar fasciitis, your doctor may suggest that you:
-take pain-relief medicine, such as ibuprofen or paracetamol
-rest your foot as much as possible
-wear shoes with good support and cushioning
-insert heel pads or arch supports (orthotics) in your shoes
    -wear night splints while sleeping
-apply an icepack to your foot for 10 to 20 minutes up to 4 times daily
-They may also suggest some exercises for you to do to stretch your plantar fascia, to better absorb your body weight.
Plantar fasciitis can often last for weeks or months.
If these measures don’t work, your doctor may give you steroid injections in your heel suggest surgery. These treatments are rare and usually only used in the most severe cases.

  • The best recommendation is stretching your foot and taping it up. A massage can help, heat rubs. After 4-6 weeks if there’s no change to look into orthotics. Look at your rest-activity balance, maybe some more exercise and movement is needed. A GP will be able to assist further, if you need smaller heels or different shoes depending on the location. Hoping you can find a resolution.
