Hello!

What is the best way to sanitise chopping boards and surfaces? I always worry about bacteria from contact with things like raw meat – would love to know what other mums do to keep their kitchen safe.

  • Keeping separate boards is a good idea.

  • I really like the antibacterial suggestion because it would save lots of time.

  • I think for wooden chopping boards you’re supposed to use salt to disinfect them and on plastic you can use bleach, but I’d google check that first.

  • Use antibacterial dishwashing liquid, antibacterial dishcloths. Also antibacterial hand wash. You can buy antibacterial wipes to clean the bench.

  • Yes hot soapy water works! Really interesting reading the comments on this!

  • A wash with hot soapy water is usually good enough. If you’re worried about contamination on boards, try wetting with vinegar and sprinkling with bicarb. Let it sit for half hour or so and wash. Works on most stains and a lot of smells

  • I always use a different chopping board for raw meat. Then I wash it thoroughly. I don’t believe in antibacterial solution or disinfectant. They are oversubscribed and often improperly used. Good hand hygiene and keeping benches clean.

  • Most answer have been hot sudsy water and I’m in agreeance.

  • Hot soapy water is good for cleaning boards and then immediately dry.

  • We wah our chopping boards after use is wash in hit soapy water &dry .With chicken has been cut I like to wash then a rub down with vinegar & rince off .

  • I’m just careful with raw meat but particularly chicken. I find chopping it up on a plate gives me piece of mind because then I am not dealing with a chopping board at all

  • Hot soapy water. Overuse of ant bacterials will just cause more illnesses later on.

  • I use anti bacterial dish wash to clean my benches as well.

  • The antibacterial wipes are expensive but they make it so easy to clean, the Coles brand is really good.

  • Wollworths make a non toxic hospital grade disinfectant that Eco conscious. I use it for disinfecting everything!

  • you have a dishwasher? cuz it does the job for u

  • there are some good comments here

  • Hot soapy water, antibacterial wipes are expensive.

  • spray anti-bacterial on your bench when needed, wipe down regularly with warm soapy water, use different cutting boards and separate knives for meat, fish and vegetables. Wipes are handy, quick and easy to use as are paper towels.

  • I have the Joseph Joseph chopping board and knife set that helps you not mix raw meats with veggies etc.
