Hello!

Wondering if any MoM’s had any tips on tonsillitis. My Miss 7, gets reoccurring tonsillitis as a minimum once a month, she is on the waiting list to get them out… but she is allergic to antibiotics (yes all of them all and no she can’t handle them). I was wondering if any MoM’s had ‘home remedies’, we’ve tried a high vitamin C diet (doc recommended it) and gargling salt water. Nothing is working. We use panadol to manage temps and pain relief. Any tips?

  • Has she had her tonsils out yet?

  • Oh the poor little thing, so painful.

  • Lemon is great. Try making fresh lemon drinks.

  • How did she end up ? Hope she recovered well.

  • maybe her diet? good luck

  • Take her to a natropath Good luck

  • Yes I think I would be getting a referral too if she is getting it as frequently as once a month. I would try anything to coat the back of the throat, including lozenges, lots of which can be used from age 6 and up.

  • Take her to a specialist he can get her in to hospital quicker my middle son was the same and we went on a waiting list as well then someone recommend us to a specialist and my boy was in hospital within the week and had his removed demand a referal to one from your local gp they have to give you one

  • Strepsils could be helpful, and what’s good is now they even have a kids version.

  • my mother always used to make me hot water with lemon and honey, it soothed a sore throat and the lemon helps to fight the germs 🙂

  • I’m not sure if it would work but maybe those throat lozenges with anaesthetic? or betadine throat gargle?

  • U poor thing. Allergic to all antibiotics. What have the doc said?

  • Great question, thanks for posting this! I was wondering aswell 🙂

  • I think it would be worth seeing a Naturopath to see what advice they could give you.

  • It’s not great to give to much milk it makes puss on the tonsils. Okay and real cold is not good neither as the throat is really hot and ore it’s like dropping half a cup of cold water into a hot frying pan… Okay warm is better once the tonsils come out then we do icecream and jelly etc.. I would be asking to see a nose ear and throat dr. Miss Ayla tonsils got so bad they where taken in a emergency operation. Where swelling to a point they could of choked her .. That was at westmead children’s here in Sydney. Hers was taken out by a Dr Bolt.. Brilliant man very nice.. And only takes them out if they need to be taken out… To much antibiotic is. Not good for children .. I hope this helped..Ayla had hers out at four was always sick we have never looked back…

  • Poor thing. I got some numbing mouth wash from the chemist that I use on myself.

  • Liquid foods ie soups or icecream is easier to eat with a sore throat. icy poles are nice too

  • Teaspoon of honey in hot water to drink may help

  • I hope that you have found something useful for her, poor thing!

  • Try some manuka honey from the chemist/health food store. It’s great in a warm drink, or even just off a spoon, and has healing qualities
