Hello!

Wondering if any MoM’s had any tips on tonsillitis. My Miss 7, gets reoccurring tonsillitis as a minimum once a month, she is on the waiting list to get them out… but she is allergic to antibiotics (yes all of them all and no she can’t handle them). I was wondering if any MoM’s had ‘home remedies’, we’ve tried a high vitamin C diet (doc recommended it) and gargling salt water. Nothing is working. We use panadol to manage temps and pain relief. Any tips?

  • My daughter had recurrent tonsilitis and surgery was the best thing ever. While we were waiting for surgery we found that yoghurt and icy poles helped (she didn’t like icecream) and we used the gastrolyte icy poles as she didn’t eat much at all :(. She is allergic to penicillin, but not the others thankfully. It is awful when they are so sick and there isn’t much you can do. Good luck and I hope she gets off the waiting list soon.

  • she does see a doctor every time, however there is not a great deal that can be done, without antibiotics. She has seen ENT and they have placed her on the waiting list to have them removed, and i do call the hospital to see how far up she has moved in the list. It is a waiting game. I am thankful of all the tips that have been suggested and we used the honey and lemon and warm water. thank you and i have written a list up of everything MoM’s have suggested for the next time it occurs too. thank you so much for your help!!

  • Chamomile Tea & Honey help sooth the throat and both anti-inflammatory properties.
If chamomile isn’t a liked taste for a child warm water with honey is another good one – if your having issue with that melt the honey with some hot water and stir it into some sodawater as kids seem to love softdrink even when sick!!

  • Hope your little girl has recovered by now

  • i think if its happening that ofetn, you may need to have them taken out. see your dentist or even gp might have answers for you.

  • my daughter currently has tonsillitus feel so helpless

  • If she is having tonsilitis once a month she should really be seeing a doctor to get them taking out

  • I had it constantly as a kid. Gargle salt water 3 times a day, and rosehip tea boosts immunity a LOT. I found this was the cure for me, a constant sufferer.

  • Mouth wash from the chemist hun also numbs the throat

  • My little one was four they need to be removed. It’s a very simple operation now but like all they still have there risks.. I would be going to westmead children’s with her. And asking the experts…. I really would I know dairy can make worse…

  • If her throat is sore my grandmother use to dice a onion sprinkle sugar over let sit this draws out the juice sip on juice doesnt taste the greatest but it worked

  • My girl had ear infections and tonsillitis as a small child seems to have grown out of it, there is light at the end f the tunnel.

  • My son wad the same and what works for me to stop them from coming back was one or 2 yakults every day and also probiotics

  • Ask too see an ent (ears nose and throat) specialist my daughter ended up missing a lot of school due too reoccurring tonsillitis and she ended up getting them removed

  • Take her to casualty as soon as they become inflamed, revisit the specialist for a review about getting moved up the list. Gargling with salt water helps the infection, sucking ice will help soothe the pain

  • Gargle salty water, apart from that keep complaining to doc or hospital about it. If they see you enough times they bump u up the list. My sister had hers removed when she was 7 after reoccurring tonsillitis.they took them out after her third trip to emergency

  • Gargle with warm salt water Hope she finds some relief with all the useful tips

  • From experience, you 7yr old will get better once tonsils are removed. I don’t know why doctors persevere with making children so sick before tonsils come out. Once out We have seen timi & time again a child thrives after they come out.

  • Ignore that lol, salt water gargle, warm water drinks seem to provide some relif

  • My son has this but needs his tonsills and adenoids out, has she seen a specialist as that isn’t normal or good for her
