Hello!

“Is it just a normal toddler phase to come into your room during the night to sleep. My 3 year old sleeps for the first 4/5 hours in her own bed then comes in and lays on the floor in our room. She says she gets scared. It doesn’t bother me too much as she goes straight back to sleep. Soon we are expecting our second bub and I just feel the whole family will be sleeping in our room. Should I just see if its a phase she will get out of? What have other parents done about it? I’ve tried different night lights, making her room all pretty, letting her sleep with a favourite toy, tucking her in nice and secure but nothing keeps her there all night.”

  • Both my kids so sleep in the same bed as we do!
Hubby has put a double mattress on the floor of the room to move them onto once they fall asleep but when they wake up they both climb the bed!
I don’t mind as much as I love having them close!!!

  • Get her to talk about what she is scared of. I spent years in mums bed because I was terrified the firemen were going to set our house of fire. If someone had have explained that deal to me sooner it could’ve been very different.

  • All my kids did this for a few months, then just stopped.

  • My 4 year old comes in every night and my 5 year old has only recently stopped coming in. I don’t think it will last forever.

  • I think so! It was interesting reading the comments to this!

  • I am having the same issue with my 4 yo. So far, but nothing has worked, not the night light in her room, stories or music or returning her to her bed. I hope as suggested in the answers, that it is just a phase.

  • I guess you might try giving her cuddle and reassurance and then taking her back t o her own room
Be gentle and kind but firm and tell her sleeping in soft bed is good for her health and well being
There are some great relaxation CD’s for children and playing them in her room both when you are there and when you leave may be comforting
    all the best.
Guess she see’s you sleeping with someone and thinks she is missing out. When new baby comes
    , room mate for her?

  • I think its just a phase they go through, they should grow out of it.

  • Have you had any luck yet?

  • Hope you managed to find the answer you were looking for.

  • I do think its just a phase

  • How are you going now?

  • I am so hoping that this is not a phase that all kids go through.

  • How is your daughter now, is she sleeping in her bed?

  • My 4 year does the same and my eldest did it too. The only way to stop it is to take them back to bed each time. Ends up in lots of long nights. But does work in the end.

  • Probably a phase. How is she going now?

  • It can be pretty common, however I was a bit mean because I was a bit mean with it, I let them know unless they were not well then they had to be in their bed.

  • This must be common as my 3 YO does the same. Thing no matter what I do she still ends up in my bed sometime though the night.

  • I have the sleep over blow up all on one bed beside my bed for my two year old but she climb into bed with us so I about to put a child Gaye at my door so then I will just get up and take her back to bed

  • It is definitely normal, if you’re bothered by it you can put her back in her room, but she’ll probably stop doing it by herself anyway, quite possibly when there is a noisy baby in your room!
