Hello!

My 3yo has been toilet training for 4 months. We have scoured the internet looking for tips and hints and things to try. He can wee in the toilet or potty but won’t tell you he needs to go or go by himself. We have to take him every hour or so or he will have an accident. Number 2’s are even worse. He frequently has accidents and may sit on the potty for an extended period of time get off with no result and poo 5 minutes later. I would love responses from mums who have been in the same position experiencing the same problems if there us any out there.

  • He will get there. One of mine took forever to get the hang of it. Patience and encouragement are the key.

  • Make sure he’s really ready, I started when mine were. Rewards charts are great and you can buy potty kids books from Big W which encourage them. Good Luck!

  • He will eventually know when he needs to go. He just needs more time. I found letting my children run around with no pants on (in summer) allowed them to feel the wee run down their leg & then they realised the sensation of needing to go. Every child is different. Some take longer than others. When he does end up going by himself, give him a reward (e.g. sticker or chart) & congratulate him. Keep persevering. He will get there! :)
