Hello!

My daughter is 2.5yo. We had decided it was time to start toilet training, and there were the signs you look for. A week in and we have had no success, she refuses to sit on the toilet, she just stands there and wets herself and happily takes her undies off and gets a new pair, doesn’t care about the mess. She hasn’t once had a successful trip to the toilet. Could it be too early? Should we just give up and wait a bit longer or is there something I am missing?

  • You just have to stick with it. Does she go to day care where she can see other kids her age going to the toilet?

  • Can she yet indentify when she needs to go? Try asking her every 10mins if she needs to go. Persistance is the key. Be patient and try not to pressure her. When she has an accident, tell her its ok, but make sure she tells you next time she needs to go. Maybe try a sticker reward chart, or rewarding her with something she likes when she has success. Goodluck!
