Hello!

For those that have successfully transitioned from formula to cows milk, what are some tips? We have been trying for a month now to introduce cows milk to phase out formula but our little one just won’t budge. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Our twins became very constipated on cow’s milk so our paed. Said to just stay on formula. O we went to stage 5 formula in supply cups until they dropped milk all together at around 2.5yo

  • We just did a straight out swap take it or leave it

  • 30ml at a time – slowly reduce the formula for cows. Doing it too fast (even if they take to it) can cause alllll sorts of tummy upsets. Once she was used to the 30ml, we’d up the cows milk to 60ml etc. Don’t discount the fact your child may actually dislike the cows milk – and don’t be afraid to seek professional help to ensure there’s no sort of allergy to cows milk etc if gradual inclusion doesn’t work.

  • I filled one bottle with half half. Half formula and half cows milk. They didn’t mind at all and then I just swapped to cows milk. But it depends how old your child is. I waited until my twins were 14 months old.

  • I did half formula, half cows milk & then slowly transitioned to fully cows. Only way our son would change due to the taste I think.

  • As others have suggested, gradually mix to help get your bubs used to the flavour change. Maybe try switching to another brand of milk to see if bubs likes that one.

  • definitely mixing and gradually weaning out the formula until it’s just cows milk.

  • Its already been advised below but mixing is good. I tried cold Turkey though and it was fine!

  • I found mixing formula and cows milk together starting with a very small amount of cows milk with the formula and slowing adding more as you child gets use to it. This worked for my daughter perhaps it might work for you too. Good luck.

  • If your little one isn’t a big fan of how cow’s milk tastes, you can mix equal parts whole milk and either breast milk or prepared formula (don’t mix powdered formula with whole milk instead of water). Then, gradually decrease the ratio of breast milk/formula to whole milk.
