  • around 6mths for me and it was just once a day to start with.

  • I believe you can start on solids at four months of age.

  • I started my daughter on solids (farex cereal) at five months of age.

  • I gave my baby little smears/tastes from 4 months, then meals from 6 months. I basically started with 3 meals a day but they were quite small meals and gradually built them up. My son really wanted to start eating food so it was easy for me. At first I’d go through one of those baby food pouches per day, divided into the 3 meals.

  • I started solid for both my kids at 4months old some people starts at 6 months

  • And did you start yet BrianaLouise ? How is it going ?

  • I started my son of food when he was around 5 months. However, he would only eat a small amount until he was around 6 months.

  • The Health care babygroup coordinator said to start introducing food at 6 months but I’d been feeding my child from just before 4 months. Although I was producing lots of milk, my bub was just hungry so I introduced a little Farax and then after about a week added purees to the mix like kumera, apple & pear. Each child is so different and what works for some doesn’t work for others. I’d say, take on board the professionals advice but you know your child better than anyone so do what you think is right for then

  • From 4 months, I gave my little one pureed pumpkin and sweet potato.

  • I started purées at 4 months, then introduced baby led weaning from 6 months :)

  • My second kept staring at me with food envy before he was 4 months. So I started him on Puree

  • My bubs were grabbing what I was eating between 3 and 4 months so I let them have a taste. They loved rusks when they were teething and soon wanted to eat solid foods.

  • 4 months.But i remember they will eat only a teaspoon.

  • I started my daughter on solids at 4 months old. My daughter was so hungry and was feeding every 1.5 hours. When I questioned the health nurse about it she told me that the only reason why they changed it from 4 months to 6 months was because of childhood obesity. My daughter was so active crawling and walking along furniture at 4 months. I decided she needed to start solids to keep up with the growing. My daughter has never had a weight issue and never had a problem with sleeping since!

  • I would start at 3 months and pureed food. Take it slowly and see how you go.

  • I found my babies to be very different. My first had terrible reflux so tried introducing pureed apple then mashed pumpkin when he was 3 months old, he took to it well but did nothing for the reflux. My next child also had reflux but I didn’t introduce solids till he was 4 months old, he was very keen on mashed vegetables but he also had reflux bad enuf that he would bring up blood. He was fine once we had that treated using the old fashioned idea of Corn Flour to thicken his bottles at 2 months old & a medication to strengthen the flap that stops reflux. He still to this day loves his veges while his older brother hates them.
Babies don’t really need solids in any form till they are 4 to 6 months & you are best talking to a nurse or other medical professional about it if you feel it should be introduced. There are risks associated with foods that can cause allergic reactions & while some studies are now saying we should give them foods like strawberries & nuts I was always cautious.

  • Hi,
I started with solids when my daughter was almost 4 and a half months old. The paediatrician gave us the green light to start, however, she recommended not to give my baby bananas first. She recommended that we first start with vegetables.
At the time it was autumn so the first food I offered to my daughter was pumpkin which she loved straight away.
I gave her puréed pumpkin in the morning as it is advisable to introduce new foods in the morning due to a possibility of a food allergy. I used to breastfeed her and then offer her pumpkin.
After three days of pumpkin, I introduced new vegetable and so on.
    I hope this helps. ????

  • I remember asking my maternal health nurse about this

  • I started my daughter at 4 months, but I started my son at 5 months, it all depends on the individual, we started with 1 small meal (usually fruit/rice creal) then by 6/7months they were having 2 little meals of a mixture of foods, with some LBW

  • We started officially around 6 month but I didn’t mind when my kids started taking some foods earlier. We did BLW and one of the first foods mine liked was a spoon of egg yolk and lots of finger foods like banana a chump of bread, broccoli stalks etc
