Hello!

What age do you think a child should get their ears pierced? My mother had to wait till she was 15 years old, I had to wait till I was 13 years old and not sure what I shall do with my girls just yet.

  • When they ask for it and understand how to look after them. I was about 8 when I got mine done.

  • We did when they asked for it, which was around age 5-6 yr

  • I let my girls get their ears pierced when asked me to get them done. My Eldest was 12, my middle girl 8 and my youngest is yet to ask :)

  • I was around 10 and I wasn’t allowed to wear dangley earrings, studs only for safety. My daughter was 7 and she had the worst experience. The gun jammed, twice, blood was everywhere. She was crying. It was awful

  • I would let your children decide if and when they’re ready.

  • I personally would let my girls at 5-6 years if they asked but my teen girl (15) only wanted them done this year !

  • I don’t have an exact age in mind for my daughter. I will wait till she is mature enough to understand the consequences of what will happen if she does not care for them. I am more than happy for her to wear stick-on/clip-on earrings first if she is interested. I’m not a fan of any body piercings on babies as they have no choice in the matter.

  • I wouldn’t get a child’s ear’s pierced. Even when they are “old enough” teenagers. I know plenty who have regretted it, got problems from it, scar tissue, hard lumps, infections and they are plain ugly – not to mention inconvenient when sleeping etc. Awful decision. Would never do it, and would steer anyone away from it.

  • Other than you selecting a mininum age, I think you should let your daughter choose for herself. She needs to be old enough to understand how she has to take care of them after they have been done, and ongoing care that may be needed. Bear in mind and warn your daughter that some can only wear stainless steel (I know of quite a few). Maybe don’t do it after junk food. A girl I know vomitted after having hers done and they think what she had eaten could have contributed to it.

  • I think when they choose to themselves

  • I suppose I have a few more years to think about it!

  • I was about 11 when mine were done, my sister was 3 years younger but gad hers done with me. My daughter was 7 I think, and I now think it was too young

  • I think when they’re old enough to make the decision themselves, knowing fully what it involves. Kinda breaks my heart to see little tiny babies with their ears pierced but each to their own. My daughter is 3 and has been asking but I don’t think she knows how they actually get into her ear or that she can’t play with them all the time haha I can just see her pulling on them too hard or something. I can’t deal with blood!!
At the moment she just wants to wear pretty earrings like mummy. I bought her some stick on earrings intead, which she seems happy with for now :)

  • I had mine done when I was 5.
I always said that I would allow my daughter to have hers done when she asks for it. I didn’t want to make the decision for her

  • i had mine done as a littlie. my oldest girl was 4 (at school) and wanted hers done like her friends and still haven’t done my other daughter yet.

  • My sisters and I had our ears pierced on our 2nd birthdays, as was tradition in our family.
None of us have had girls to decide wether or not to continue the tradition but personally I think it should be the childs choice.

  • When they are teenagers and can care for their own ears and earrings. They have to be able to clean their ears and earrings.

  • I think when they are interested in having it done, and understand the process.
A lot of people argue that its better to do when they’re little because they won’t remember it, but it’s not that painful, and it might be a good thing that they are a bit apprehensive and understand that it hurts.
