  • These days, I don’t think cheapmeat exists does it? Best I can offer is to buy in bulk (eg whole rumps) and maybe go waxes with other families if the amount is too much for you. Might save a couple of dollars

  • I too use beef mince for a variety of dishes. Very versatile.

  • Buying in bulk where you can! Sausages – curried sausages with pasta, sausage mince to make sausagerolls(you can hide veggies in these!) chuck steak in a slow cooker and I buy meat when it’s on special and freeze.

  • Its the default but you can really do a lot with mince

  • Mince meat to make home made burgers, lasange and mince meat sauce.

  • Buy puff pastry and sausage meat to make own sausage rolls..adding veges like grated carrot and some spinich.
Mince can be halved to cover more than

  • Has a mum of two lids who enjoying eating their dinner I ussually buy meat on reduced price and I check out coles, safeway or even Aldi so I still continue to buy quality meat.I know it’s time consuming but budget and quality are my priority for my family.

  • Anything chicken – it’s quite cheap in comparison to other meats. Options are endless – roast, stirfry, casserole, lasagne, Mexican, Indian, pasta…

  • How about a meat free night? I know meat eaters aren’t always keen on that suggestion but it is much cheaper and will make the food budget go further. A can of red kidney beans, lentils or pasta night can save quite a bit of money. Alternatively using less mince in a dish and bulk it up with kidney beans.

  • I like to use
1: Chuck steak for beef casserole in a large oven dish which lasts 2 nights.
2: Or beef mince to make lasagna which also lasts 2 nights.
3: Chicken breast when it’s on sale to make snitzel for 2 nights.

  • Most definitely mince and chicken!

  • Mince is great and you can bulk it out with veggies and lentils. Chuck steak is good in the slowcooker . Sausages, chicken wings and drumsticks are always my go to when money is tight

  • I don’t eat red meat but think you can’t go past chicken. Especially with a slow cooker – chicken thighs are delicious in the slow cooker as are drumsticks or cheap bone in pieces. We often see drumsticks for $1.99 a kg – can’t get much cheaper than that

  • Sausages are good to pop in a slow cooker and make cheap casseroles to freeze. Chuck steak slow cooked is also quite cost affective, as is rump steak, and even better if you can get it on special.

  • Wait until there are markdowns and just buy when the price is right. You can get 50%, 60% even 80% reductions. The meat will freeze and last for months until you are ready to use.

  • Whoops, I totally read that as meals instead of meats.

  • Italian baked eggs! So delicious and very cheap to make for lots of people. I find a lot of simple soups to be delicious and cost effective, my favourite is cream of zucchini. Literally chicken stock (I use a vegan one), zucchinis, onion or leek and sour cream.

  • budget steak or braising steak can be made in to schnitzels mince or diced for casseroles ect also just humble old mince and as it is now available in everything from beef to turkey the possibilities are endless

  • Buying in bulk and splitting the costs with family/friends is good too. Plenty of freezer bags!

  • Chicken drumsticks are not as cheap as they appear to be because of the weight of the bones. They work out at the same price of chicken breasts which as often cheaper than thighs which contain more fat therefore less nutrition. Mince isn”t cheap unless Premium Mince is on special. The others contain so much fat that it often tastes terrible too. Some cheap cuts of beef are OK if you want to cook them slowly in a casserole or stew. Watch for meat that is marked down. It is usually OK if you use it before or on the use by date. Some of it tends to go off quickly after that date. Check the price per kg. on normally priced meat. Sometimes meat is not as cheap as it appears to be.
