Hello!

Any suggestions for educational apps for my 4.5 year olds? I want to steer away from minecraft and the like (are they even still around) He loves lego and the like and is a typical boy

  • abc, numbers, shapes, tracing, puzzles

  • We use ABC Reading eggs! It mixes games with education. My son LOVES it and sees it as a rewards while it has taught him how to read before he starts school next year!

  • These have been a winner with my preschooler when she gets tablet time…
    Teach Monster to Read
    Endless Numbers
    Endless Reader
    Lumikids (x4 games)

  • Are you kidding me?! Get him outside kicking a ball and climbing trees. I’m not into apps for little kids

  • There is a lego app where they can make vehicles etc on the screen

  • Language learning perhaps. Don’t know any specific apps but this is possibly one thing that technology can help with (unless you are multi-lingual yourself in which case just play and hang out together using the foreign language). Otherwise I tend to agree that kids need to learn in ‘old fashioned’ ways. Screen time (and yes ‘learning’ on a computer/phone counts) can actually change the way the brain develops. I’ve never found Minecraft very good; a chat group connected with it actually introduced some kids I know to porn… the woes of technology. Stay safe.

  • There is the ABC Kids app.

  • If he loves lego etc why are you looking for apps? Its quite an achievement having a child who will play with real toys instead of being glued to a screen all day. You should be very proud. Just keep encouraging him to build and use his imagination the way he has been.
