Hello!

I am booked in to be induced in 8 days and I’m so scared as my last 2 were completely natural and pretty easyish labours (no drugs and not long) and Ive heard being induced medically if your body isn’t ready could make a hard labour and can end in c-section – that frightens me even more. My question is, are there any positive stories from being induced?

Also what can i do to naturally start labour myself? I have been taking raspberry leaf and evening primrose oil as directed by the midwife just wondering if much else can help my midwife and ob explained the following but its alot that needs to be done

Sex has to be 3-4 times a day for 3-6days straight with organisms and semen every time

Pineapple u have to eat 7-9 whole ones a day

Curry u have to eat alot of as well

I have heard accuputure or reflexology has anyone had success with this or is it u have to do it so many times for it to work as well?

TIA for all the advice and help

  • I don’t think there really is something natural that is specific to bring on labour. I think some things may help others but have no effect on others, essentially being old wives tales. I was 41+ weeks before hospital to induce.

  • You’ve most likely had your baby and I hope all went well. I’ve found these comments really interesting.

  • I went 6 days over with my 3rd, and nothing I tried worked except nipple stimulation; was squeezing colostrum out for a little while and it brought on strong contractions and 2 hours later my daughter was born.

  • The research I read on pineapples was eating just the one a day. I ate one before bed and that night went into labour (3 weeks early!). Good luck.

  • Walk, Walk, WALK! It worked for my first two (both ending with reasonable labours that weren’t very long) Good luck!

  • I had to be induced with my second child. Birth went normally and no C-section was required.

  • On the day before my kids due dates I would give my house a big clean in the afternoon, mopping and sweeping etc. then have sex and within about 20 mins each time my contractions started. Both my children were born on their due dates

  • I was told to to sit and bounce on a large fit ball as my son wasn’t engaged (he NEVER engaged and needed a c-section). The ball did nothing and me talking to my son everyday asking him to come out and meet me never worked either! lol. Just try to relax with it all and if you have to get induced, like me and many other women….that’s all ok. Try not to fear the unknown. Good luck.

  • I agree with the comments immediately below; I honestly did not feel the needle! I had prepared myself for pain; however it was ok.

  • I think Raspberry leaf tea is only supposed to help the labor process not get it started. I am not sure any of those things actually work, its only when your body is ready or appropriately stimulated by the doctors. I am guessing you are being induced because you will be two weeks past term, My first pregnancy went two weeks late, a c section was going to be booked but my doctor gave me a “stretch and sweep” and sure as heck that night labor started!

Unfortunately it ended in an emergency c section because of how my baby was lying (posterior and obstructed with his hand over his head!) and his heart rate dropped. My second, I went into labor at 34 weeks and ended with a c section because of complications – I am telling you this because i never wanted a c section, I was petrified of them, of the needle in my back, of not being a woman who can deliver her own babies – BUT it gave me my beautiful children and it meant that they were safe, and I was safe. I even had shorter recovery than one or two of my friends who birthed naturally,

Also if they hook you up to a cyntocin drip they start with low concentration and up it gradually. If they want to burst your waters, its up to you, but our midwife said it would only speed up the process by a few minutes when it is more valuable for the baby to be in the lovely sac of fluid!f
Best of luck, hope bub comes naturally!

  • I was 2 weeks over and tried raspberry leaf tea. Didn’t work for me. Tried walking but it was so hard with a huge baby (9lbs6 when she finally came). I was induced and it wasn’t too bad. No ceasar. Being your third it will probably all go along fine. Good luck and I hope your little bundle appears very soon!

  • Also; forgot to say in my previous comments; I was induced and did not have a C section! I was quite terrified too! Express how you are feeling at the time and they will listen to you; baby will be monitored and if necessary they will do a C section for the health of you and bub! Again; good luck! :)

  • For me it was because i moved around a lot at about 34 weeks i was no were near looking like the baby was on its way. Then at 38 weeks i was moving house and climbing up and down a truck and just generally walking around a lot and preparing the nursery. My dads a naturopath and he has helped induce a lot of women with acupture. That really works.

  • Unfortunately I think until your body is ready there isn’t really anything that will 100% work, as someone said a massage to relax and they went into labour that day but was it just good timing. Try and relax as best you can 8 days is a long time your baby night decide to change the doctors plans. :-)

  • Anything that makes your bowels work, prunes, watermelon, oranges, overindulge and this can tend to start things moving, however unless you are actually ready nothing will really help, walking can also assist.

  • Those are the only ones I know good luck and hope it goes smoothly for you

  • Unfortunately; sometimes being induced is the only option. Personally; it was not as awful for me as I had imagined. Good Luck! :)

  • My friend had acupuncture and went into labour the next day. I tried most things and the only thing that worked for me (or was good timing) was a nice relaxing massage. I had it in the afternoon and went into labour that night. I’d say just try and relax as much as you can. Best of luck I hope it all goes smoothly for you :-)
