Hello!

I know we all have the most important job of all – being a mum, but what career do you have or what kind of other work do you do? Does it help keep you sane?

  • Part time librarian, I went back to uni when the kids started school and finished my degree. It’s a great job and very female friendly, many of the staff are mums and are understanding of time off for shcool and illness

  • I w as working in aged and disability and really enjoyed it. I was working in home care and community access. It was also something I had never even considered before I started studying community services years back. To me the only downfall was the lack of consistency – I would be out of the house like full time work hours but only get about 25 hours of paid work (many broken shifts of 2-3 hours and so much travelling)
However due to circumstances I have now moved on to a completely different field that I also never thought I’d be doing.

  • I chose a community based career. I was never sure of what I wanted to do, so I looked at what I didn’t want to do and went from there. I don’t want to be our in the weather all day, don’t want to be stuck wearing “professional” attire all day etc.. I then looked at the skills I already have, so followed that path. Your day can be a whole lot easier when you’re doing something you enjoy.

  • Nothing! I’ve floated from job to job, no training required. Now I’m medically not well enough to work and slowly going nuts. There’s only so many home jobs to do

  • Pre-kids I was a psychiatric nurse and worked for over 20 years in the field. When the kids were a little older we started fostering.

  • I work in aged care but would eventually love to become a nurse, just a bit hard for me to study right now as i live in a small country town and the closest place to do it is 2 hours away 3 days a week and i’m not confident enough to do it by distance. Maybe one day :)

  • I used to do cleaning, not much but it got me out of the house mixing with other people and earning some extra money. Then arthritis got a hold and that was that

  • I’m still studying for my dream career. I can’t wait to do counselling/psychology but the study might turn me insane before I get there :P
I did part time admin and have picked up some casual days since my new baby, which is an awesome easy job when the rest of life is hectic.

  • I do an admin job. Its good for me to socilaise with people and get out of the house.
It is not an amazing career but I have made some great friends.

  • pre baby i was a hairdresser. i loved it and i still cut my family’s hair and mine!
