Hello!

I couldn’t stand the smell of red onions, garlic and olive oil. Thankfully my taste buds returned to normal.

What foods turned your stomach in pregnancy?

  • Anything with nuts in it like muesli bars, etc. and the smell of red meat cooking.

  • Not a food as such but coffee for the first 10 weeks or so which was really hard because I’m pretty much a coffee addict….

  • Toothpaste was bad or anything with a mint smell or taste.

  • Cooking meat wasn’t great, but I’m not that keen on that smell at the best of times.

  • Lettuce lol!!

  • It was mainly anything raw such as meat or seafood, which still does.

  • Caffeine also made me ill – the smell! :(

  • Meat – in particular red meat!

  • Anything and everything for a while. I loved coffee and chocolate though, couldn’t touch either when pregnant. Still don’t enjoy coffee much, but chocolate is thankfully back on my menu ;)

  • Pet food! With my first, I was 3 month pregnant living in a tiny, hot flat over Summer when I spilt a massive container of very meaty smelling dog biscuits and cleaning them up made me vomit and made we hate that smell! Also mince cooking (not a favourite any time but I hated it with all 3 pregnancies!)

  • I absolutely loved chocolate and coffee…..then I fell pregnant :/ Couldn’t touch either of them, just the smell of coffee would make me sick. To this day, 26 years later, I still don’t enjoy coffee. I gave got back into chocolate tho :)

  • I didn’t have a problem with anything in particular but I had about a month of not wanting to eat anything at all!,

  • Sadly, I couldn’t stomach coffee (I am a coffee-addict! lol). In both my pregnancies too.
Luckily, all returned to normal once babies were born. :-)

  • Cooking any type of meat but especially mince and steak!

  • I know one Mum who couldn’t eat fish & Chips while she was pregnant.
Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli – the smell of it – bear it mind that the gas that comes out while it is cooking is actually sulphur.
Apparently my Mum was sick any time of the day or night when she was pregnant with my younger brother. It didn’t matter what she ate. The Dr. tried various diets and even liver injections. He wasn’t popular because my Mum hated the taste (and smell of liver cooking) She could taste it even though it was IV, so could the Dr.’s wife when another Dr. gave it to her. One night my Mum said if she was going to be sick she wanted to enjoy whatever she ate “for the time that she had it” She had fish & chips with a baby bottle of Coke.
You could buy very small bottles of Coke easily back then. You still can but very few supermarkets stock them. Dad was sure the Dr. would tell her off. It was the first night she wasn’t sick in months. After that she had normal food but some nights she had a small glass of Coke…..and she wasn’t sick so it became a nightly ritual for the last few weeks. Apparently she burped like a baby but wasn’t sick. She never drank the whole bottle. Dad and I used to finish it off…I only had a couple of sips but I was happy with that. Not that I would recommend it though unless your Dr. agrees to it. I am surprised she didn’t try lemonade.

  • It was more meals, like spaghetti bolognaise (which I love) and pizza. I found if I had smelt the meal cooking for ages beforehand it was more likely that I wouldn’t be able to stomach it.

  • Some pretty random food people were turned off. I was turned of things with ginger, but didn’t realise for a while because people said it should help morning sickness. I needed something thick in my stomach to not thrown up. So eating fruit wasn’t helpful but if I ate bread first fruit was fine, weird.

  • The only food I really couldn’t stand during both of my pregnancies were eggs. It wasn’t the smell or taste but the look before cooked. I couldn’t stand actually seeing the raw eggs, that would make me feel like I was going to vomit. I have no idea why but I suspect maybe it had something to do with thinking of them as what they are, rather than food. I had to get my husband to cook eggs for me and then I could eat them after they were cooked.

  • I found cooking meat the worst particularly with my 3rd pregnancy and hubby had to cook most meals till around 3 months.

  • ive always loved olives but couldnt even stand the smell of them in pregnancy
