I have had a severe reaction to something (maybe inhaled mould) and I want as many ways to manage the itchiness as possible!!

  • Camomile lotion or oat based soap/body wash would be the least irritating options

  • Dermaveen – the oatmeal soap and shampoo/conditioner have really helped my son. Also hydration. Drink loads of water, and moisturise skin

  • Hope you are feeling better. Some of the other comments are great, I agree with trying to use products that are free of nasties.

  • Glad you have been checked by doctor and checked over. I have come up in very itchy red spots and found that sorbolene cream stops the itch. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Phenergan works for my youngest daughter who has allergic reactions to mosquitoes. Maybe try that or something similar. Good luck!

  • You may have experienced an allergic reaction . There are a lot of allergy tablets such as Telfast , Zytec etc where they can relieve itchy skin , throat etc. Maybe try those and see your GP if it is severe. Hope it gets better .

  • I see that you have been to the Dr. Have you tried calamine lotion for the itch

  • not sure if your nose itches or body, not clear.Try get rid of mould I know as once had wardrobe fitted that got damp, even put light in and mould remover containers too. Now back to you, if it is nose an atihistamine may do, if skin itches silly but true vinegar stops itching it is true. Hope this is of help to you

  • I’d see your GP. In the meantime maybe try Aveeno or QV.

  • You could try using aloe vera gel. They say it’s very good at soothing the skin and relieving irritations.

  • Depending of course on the cause of itchiness – creams that help me and my kids include MooGoo, derm aid and oatmeal based moisturisers and body washes

  • Thanks every one for the comments….. to clarify I had already been to the doctor and started on antihistamines. The question was more about how to manage the itchiness with other methods as well.

  • When my daughter had hives, the only thing that helped with the itching was aloe vera cream. I bought some from Woolworths.

  • For immediate relief an anti-histamine. But I agree that, if you can’t find an explanation to the itchiness, the best thing is to see a doctor.

  • I agree with all the mums that are suggesting you go see a GP as there ARE many things that can cause itching. its hard to answer a question if we dont know what kind of itching, is it on the skin or inside the mouth etc.. My kids can no handle some kinds of soaps or detergents etc..

  • First go to the Doctor’s could be a number of this. I had itchy skin and sores now I have to eat Gluten free foods. So please go to the Doctor

  • Please go see a doctor. It could be a number of things and without medical advice you may make the irritation worse if you apply the wrong treatment.

  • When my son had chicken pox and would itch we would use cornflour. We’re natural fibres as well like cotton.

  • Itchiness can be caused by so many things, first stop is to see your GP and they could refer you to a specialist to identify the source and get to the correct cure.

  • If you can’t find the cause and the problem persists after treatment you may need to be referred to an allergist to have tests to find out what you are allergic to. Could you have bumped against something in the garden or in the stree?. It can be something as simple as that. Or it could be a change in the % of ingredients in a product you put on your skin. Even something as simple as Sunscreen. I know one lady who has had so many bad reactions to sunscreen that she keeps each packaging off the container when she empties so when she buys another one she can check ingredients even the % of each one. She has been caught too many times. I also know a young boy who was supposed to be going out so they put sunscreen on him, he did go outside but only under the verandah. His skin went bright red as though he had been frying in the sun all day. He was rushed to the Dr. as they thought it was really serious, but it was an allergic reaction to the sunscreen. I have seen photos and he looked as though he had jumped into hot water. The spots like on his ear lobes that don’t stay under his hat had extra put on them and they were much redder. Are you wearing clothing made of synthetic material? anything that wasn’t washed first before wearing? They may not use the chemical they used to on clothing but it has been reported and confirmed that a different one is used to stop clothing creasing while packed in cartons for transport, storage etc. Some are still labelled wash before wear.
