I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to have twins when I was younger. Then when I had my one baby, I had no idea how it could be done! I’ve spoken to mothers who have had twins and most have had help. And fed one breast one bottle, switching each feed.

They seem to wake up at the same time. One disturbs the other. If they are identical you may need to put a bracelet on one of them. Friends of ours cared for identical twins – identical in every way ……except one had a deeper cry that the other one. One of their own children who was about 8 years old knew which one had what crying sound.

While not technically twins, it has given me some insight. We gained care of our newborn niece when our own daughter was just three months old. The first six weeks were a total blur of juggling feeding (one breast, one bottle), rocking babies, trying to get everyone sleeping at the same time…..it did start getting easier eventually though. It was like a factory line for babies with clothes and nappies laid out for our two year old and the two girls for every change time.
