We asked our guide when we were on holiday in Thailand and she said – they always keep 3 pots one just planted, one in the process of growing and one full grown at all times. They grow them in pots on a warm window sill in easily draining soil and water them 3 times a day. Coriander doesn’t like wet feet or dry heat. So keep it watered regularly but free draining and it grows best in winter, spring and autumn. It is too hot in summer which is why it bolts to seed quickly.
Oh wow, i had the very same question as i’ve tried growing it from a plant and that died. I love coriander as well so will try out what every mum has mentioned. Thanks!
We eat a lot of coriander, and grow in a little veggie pot out the back. Mostly from seed but if I am in a hurry I buy it in pots. Although my garden can not keep up with our consumption!
If you plant it straight into the garden it will gradually take over. Keeping it picked regularly stops it from going to seed. Id does definitely stay fresh on the plant but will not last long if picked and put in the fridge.
I’d love to grow corriander too. I tried from seed and found a small pot on the window ledge was most successful since I saw it regularly and could give it water when needed etc. However, after the seedlings got so high I found they died (maybe my soil?) then I found a farmers market that regularly sold cheap bunches with thick roots. I discovered that I could plant the thing in my window ledge pot and snip as required. It lasted longer than putting the bunch in the fridge! And began to grow on its own. I shall certainly be trying whole plants for now.
