Hello!

My 6 month old son has CMPA (cow milk protein allergy), soy and lactose allergies. He is on a special amino based baby formula but I have just begun introducing solids this past week. I’m looking for simple ideas to try to get him used to normal food as the formula he is used to isn’t very pleasant tasting and he’s finding it difficult with more flavoursome choices. So far rice cereal has been the only successful food due to it being made with formula. Any ideas? Baring in mind I have to start slow and trial all his foods to make sure he won’t get a reaction. Thanks!

  • avocado, sweet potato, carrot, apple and pear (obviously separately) are good starting foods.

  • mashed banana, or sweet potato with really mooshy cooked and mashed broccoli,

  • Coles also sell lactose free yoghurt, cheese and icecream.

  • pureed foods and just intoduce them 1 at a time over 3 days then mix some together egg.

    day 1 mash spud
have this for 3 days no reacion all good
then next foods masshed pumkin and then mix the two together

you can also do pureed meats but once you have done the spud and pumkin so you can mix meats with it.

Can also do fruits and other veggies.

i cooked all of my meals for both boys as didnt like the look/ smell of brought baby foods and didnt want any thing else added that didnt need to .

all i did was cooked a little ectra each night so what i had for tea tonight our son would have tomorrow for lunch/ tea

also if you get some ice cube trays fill them with food and freeze so you have a few more on hand esp if you are having dinner out or t/away meals ect.

  • I don’t know if you can find a list of lactose free foods. Have you tried Liddel lactose free milk at all? There is also a range of lactose free UHT milk. You may be able to use it in cooking. As you baby grows older and you introduce new food, you will need to read all labels thoroughly including biscuits. I don’t know about Lactose free products but I suggest you check them every time you buy items. Two friends of mine are lactose intolerant (one to the extent that she vomits) You can get lactose free cheese, yoghurt and icecream. It tasted chocolate icecream and it was really creamy and you couldn’t tell the difference. I am not a chocolate fan but I could have eaten more. The girls reckon that Liddell brand is the best. If you find a brand you like and your local supermarket doesn’t stock it you can find out it is sold in your state and request your supermarket stock it, even if they have to order it in for you. A lot of products have milk solids……… A friend of mine found out the hard way with gluten free products. He bought a product to try and liked it so he bought some a fortnight later. In that time they had added gluten to them and he was ill for nearly a week. He didn’t check the label the 2nd time. Some brands change things and don’t put it on the allergens list straight away.

  • My son is now 2 and need lactose free products. i made ll my own foods from home using lactose free products.
