Hello!

Hi mums I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to study as a stay at home mum so that I can make my own hours for work so that can be home to get kids to school (when they start) and pick them up and be with them. I live in small town so need to study something to work there as well. It’s doing my head in trying to think – so any ideas would be great.

  • I am currently doing a Diploma of Beauty Therapy… Its been great thus far and not too damanding. I have 18 months to complete my course at my leisure =) it is great, as you can do it all yourself at home, make-up, massage, aromatherapy ect…
Hope you find something you can do that is appropriate and most of all, something you will love to do!
    Good luck!!

  • Write down careers that interest you and write down the pros and cons to each one! Hopefully that will help you determine what you want to do

  • I would recommend undertaking some vocational testing so you can identify areas of interest and talent. Good luck!

  • aged care is always needed!

  • I agree child care could be good.

  • Any study is better than none! Depends what interests u

  • pick something you are passionate about then you will be successful.

  • Do a little research into a few field before deciding but make sure it something you enjoy!

  • I think you really need to think about your interests and hobbies and choose something you would enjoy doing :)

  • Education seems to obvious one as you can work school hours, but the downside is you’ll have a fair bit of prac to organise child care around.

  • I was thinking mad always do of further study as well but being a mum it’s a very big juggling act. I’m the same I have no idea what to study. What I would do though is avoid courses that require you to have long periods of practical placements or night shift placements etc. find out what you really like in life and follow your dream. Good luck

  • maybe some course that you areinterested in. Try open universities

  • Education, child care are good for family frriendly hours but also has to be something you like, try some free online courses first to see what grabs you, check out Open University.

  • Maybe study child care.
Because your already 1/2 way there :)

  • There is so many great online courses available, first and foremost find what gives you the most pleasure, is it cooking, art, beauty industry… find your niche then look for courses that suit your skills the most. Remember if you love what you do in life you can’t go wrong.

  • First, work out what your interests are…. and then look at the small town you’re in… and try to find your ‘spot’ there with what you want to do… :) Good luck!

  • Sit down and think about what interests you and what is worth while you doing.

  • As others have said you need to think about what interests you before anything else because if you dont like it, you wont be motivated to do it and who wants to end up in a job they hate?
Also being a small town there may be a great opportunity to start a business that people usually have to travel to get to, eg nails/makeup, photo printing or framing, a kids sports class, or maybe a family day care if you think its needed where you live.
    Good luck!

  • There are so many courses to study at home, depends whether you want career prospects or a hobby. You could even try your hand at cake decorating classes which is only one night a week ad make a career out of that

  • Find something your interested in and start there is the best idea but if your really lost I know you can’t go past aged care they always need people you can study from home and when you want a job you can mostly choose your own hours :) but I would be searching the net to find something your interested in and think about the best outlook of that job. If you want to work from home hairdressing and nails and such is good too
