Good on you for trying ! How did you go ?

I used regular toweling nappies and got into a routine of soaking them overnight in Napisan and washing them the next day. This worked for me but may not work for everyone.

I would go for plain white and cheap too and just do images load or cleaning nappies when there is enough it will save you money

You need extra inserts as they take a long time to dry, longer than the other part of the nappy. The inserts don’t catch the bulk of the poos. The nappy itself does The inserts mainly absorbs moisture. You would save money with them but they are not that easy to maintain. It is not a good idea to throw the main part of a nappy in a clothes dryer. The outer part deteriorates if you continuously do that, We found one of our babies got worse nappy rash when we used them.

We use one size fits most cloth nappies. I have a scrub board and bucket in my laundry. I just scrub anything that didn’t tip off, leave it in the bucket, then put it through the machine at the end of the day. Some things to consider is how messy the poop is, as untreated waste isn’t meant to go down the drain. My liner catches most of it.

There are some great facebook pages that have a wealth of information, just search mcn or cloth nappies (there are also some brand specific groups). Also most websites will have information sections on their website.
It feels completely overwhelming at first but once you get into it, it’s easy!
For both my kids into bitti has been my favourite brand, though we tried out a heap to get there, including baby beehinds and bum genius.

We bought one of about 5 different types, to see which suited us and then purchased more of our favourite ones.
Hippybottomus are one of the cheaper brands, but we have found them quite good. Also, they are reasonably quick drying – a plus in winter, if you dont want to put them in the dryer.
We found that some of the brands were better when our little one was smaller, and some better as he changed shape/size.
In terms of your time concern. Its easy to just chuck them in the washing machine – how often would depend on how many you purchase. I dont find it to be very time consuming. Just work out a routine/way of doing it, and you will find its less of a hassle than you think.

In my early days with my first child, I used FB pages, Apikali and DarlingsDownUnder (websites) a lot. I also bought my first lot of nappies at a Baby/Toddler expo, and one of the brands was very good (Grovia). But babies go through different shapes as they grow, including different amounts of pee, and I learnt a lot about buying good nappies with good absorbency and material. Now with baby number 2, I actually prefer using prefolds and covers as they’re so simple and hard to muck up.

I bought a whole lot second hand from a local facebook site. It had a few different brands and different inserts. I was so overwhelmed too! Now that I’ve started using them and trying them out I’m getting more confident with them and the wash routine. My fave are the small peapods with bamboo trifold insert, my boy is 3 1/2 months old.
