  • With the right training and affection basically any dog would be suitable. Some of the larger dogs like a Labrador are quite placid and don’t mind being poked and prodded by kids. Could be why they use them as guide dogs.

  • Border collies are amazing. Very intelligent dog breed and great with kids.

  • Depends on the ages af your kids. I would go smaller breeds fir smaller children and madium breeds for the older children.

  • Jack russells are a great little dog, my son had one and he was so loyal to him, they are fast learners and very smart

  • Big or small it’s really your choose, but we have a French Bulldog that is amazing with the kids and an American Bulldog that are both so good with the kids.

  • We have a Cavoodle. I did a lot of research about the breed before buying. Very suitable for young and school aged children. Low maintenance as they don’t shed and whilst they need some exercise they are a calm and quiet inside dog, not super energetic. Very gentle and loving breed.

  • Have you chosen anything yet? :-)

  • English Springer spaniels are great for a medium sized dog. Teaches kids to groom them and walk them and they are extremely loyal and protective. Do require walking and space as they are instinctively hunter/gather type dogs so need activities – they love to play fetch (a lot!)

Jack Russells are great for small variety dogs – highly active though so need to be walked, but are a great sized dog for small children

I think through any dog large or small is great for kids – it gives them a friend to confide in when they need to, a loyal companion who will love them no matter what, teaches the kids to groom and look after another living being, – as long as the children are taught how to treat the dog properly and follow some simple rules like – don’t put your hands near their mouths when eating, etc kids should be safe. Good luck with choosing!

  • Think about your yard space – large or small, the amount of time you will have to spend with the dog and some characteristics are breed specific while others can be tempremental ie small dogs can be snappy and yappy, some are great lap dogs. My staffy is great with the kids but hates other dogs so walking her is a real chore. Jack Russells are common choices for families

  • We have an English staffy who is wonderful with our kids (5 and 2.5). My in-laws have 2 labs who are also fantastic with the kids.

  • A labrador is a large dog but very gentle with children.

  • gentle giants like the labrador or golden retriever are awesome for kids. I had a beagle growing up and he was lovely too, not so big we couldn’t walk him ourselves (around age 6 with my older sister). Really depends ony uor yard size, how often you are home/out, and what activities you can do with them/how often you will walk them. There are some good compatibility tests online, have a google.

  • We always had dogs growing up, I’d have to say the medium ones suited our family best.

  • A labrodo or german shepard would be my choice, best of luck!

  • It depends on your family and your lifestyle. Dogs need time and attention and lots of play and walks too. The RSPCA and other places that place dogs for adoption can assess and find a dog that suits your family and your lifestyle.

  • I would go big, I find little dogs can often have small man syndrome and be more nippy (not all cases tho). I love great Danes but is a personal preference, they are a very gentle giant (we had one as a kid and the 3 year old we fostered bit the dog on the nose and the dog rab away crying) but are also a very protective dog.

  • I absolutely love big dogs. And because of their kind and friendly nature, I would go for a Labrador or a Golden Retriever.
