Hello!

The fan is on, no coffee drunk after 3pm, but still I sweat every night and I wake up hot. Does anyone have any suggestions for some natural ways to keep cool?

  • I would advice against a cold shower before bed ! A cold shower to “cool off” might seem a good immediate choice. We feel cooler because of the combination of the cold water and the decreased blood flow to the skin, but in fact our core will get warmer because of reduced heat loss from the body without skin blood flow. Some minutes later, we feel hot again. Think as well about the sauna and the cold water bath; it increases circulation !
Rather I would strip down (less clothes) and use less blankets (just a sheet), open windows, use a fan or even better an aircon

  • have cool shower before you go too bed, sleep without the covers is another trick to do and an upright fan blowing on you too. you did not say what type of fan you use,but find a movable one is of more use

  • Air conditioning is such a life saver, I cannot stand too hot nights and for the kids benefit I swear by my split systems in the heights of summer

  • Older post, just checking in to see if you found a solution.

  • any medications you are on? some cause sweating. i sleep on towels and wake up soaked some nights in a 18 degree room. i feel cold but my body sweats still.

  • I always get hot at night even in the middle of winter. I don’t wear bed socks to bed for this very reason. this way I can hang a foot out to cool me down. Also you could wear something with short sleeves. Try stop your caffeine at 12 noon also. maybe you need to drink more water and take some water to bed with you. You should also get to see your GP and see what is going on.

  • Do you have a fan on? I cant even sleep without a fan anymore. Open windows?? Umm maybe a damp cloth on your forehead?

  • light blankets and clothes and a fan

  • It could actually be your mattress! Make sure the mattress is allowing air to circulate. I can’t use those memory foam mattresses because they wrap around me to much.

  • Cool, icy water to sip on and a moist cloth

  • was going to say cold face washer, but it’s been said.

  • a cold towel (wet ) on your body

  • there are some good comments here

  • Wet towel or washer around your neck or on your body

  • wet flannels and ice packs are great

  • the coolest possible shower and cotton sheets.

  • A cool shower before bed and dont dry off completely – it works well. another thing I do is to get an ice pack from the fridge and put in on my pillow, it cools it down and stops the perspiration around my neck.

  • If you are already using a fan at night try using a mist spray bottle with water.
It feels fabulous and doesn’t harm skin, clothing or bedding!

  • Keep a cold drink of water beside your bed, if you wake up during the night feeling hot, it cools you down. Wear loose, light clothes to bed, window open, fan on etc.

  • showers before bed is my trick. it always lowers my body temperature. if that doesnt help, there are so many great suggestions below!
