All kids are different. My second child would babble but not really talk. She was around 3 until people could understand what she was saying.

All children are different, but I was amazed when my first son, who I said was a chatterbox, suddenly came out with, that’s only your opinion at 16 months old. However my third child neither walked or talked till when into 2.1/2 as she let my other children do it for her.

my son is 2 1/2 and he speaks a few sentences but it is mostly a few words at most. I think he would talk more but big sister like to talk for him. They have their own language and then she tells me what he wants. It was cute to start with now it drives me insane

Most kids start in their own time but if you’re concerned no harm in following it up.
My son started talking around 1 & 1/2 but limited vocab and then around 2 & 1/2 – 3 started talking, talking and more talking. I found for him, his older sister did a lot of talking and I think he was happy to be quiet and let her do the speaking until that age.

My son started at 2 and wasnt a lot but we are Multilingual family and i think that was a problem. Now he is 3 yo and he is talking to much????

All kids are different. Seek help if you are extremely concern but most kids get there in their own time. My son is just over 3 and everyd say surprises me with new things he says, in between the stuff I can’t understand. Encourage communication anytime and everytime you can. Read to him, ask questions, talk about what you are doing. I feel like the more they hear and are asked to repsond the more they repeat and try to express themselves

My son started talking just before 2 or there abouts. Your son is not that old yet to be worrying about his development kids develop in their own time and I know from experience that it was almost overnight that my son turned into a real chatterbox.

When my boy was 2,5 years old he only spoke 5 words ! He started talking in his own time

I am told my boy was an advanced speaker who was speaking simple sentences around 18 months. We didnt use any technology and just read and spoke to him until he was over 2. He is now a very very talkative and opinionated 5 year old. I have a colleague whose son is almost 4 and not talking sentences and she is seeing a paediatrician who referred her to a speech pathologist. Have you ruled out hearing issues? Ive been told that can be common.

My nephew was about 3. He was just lazy and his sister did all the talking for him. He’ll be fine

Do you “use” words to him? – do you read stories or chatter in the car on the way out to the shops – sing nursery rhymes? – all the talking you do will widen their vocabulary too. Let’s talk to the dog, but you have to use “big boy talk” or the dog won’t understand. Describe the sky, its blue but the clouds are white, aren’t they? Use WORDS – don’t talk about him, talk TO him, and expect an answer, wait for it. Listen … it will come. If you are quick to answer for him, he won’t need to talk. Watch Playschool together, or if you’re a working Mum., tape it to watch together, play silly and let it all just happen, you’re doing a great job, some boys are basically lazy, cause they like to be Mums boy. Don’t stress about this, give him and yourself time. X

It’s hard to say. He babbled as a baby and we didn’t have any issues with understanding him, a few others did but we didn’t think it was anything to worry about. When he started kindy, the teacher suggested a speech pathologist, who said his speech was nothing to worry about. No further appointments were needed. He speaks fine now, although tends to mumble at times
