Hello!

I have purchased three different breast pumps
over 8 months and have spent a fortune but when I try and pump I get nothing!

My baby is healthy and has never been under weight people comment and say how chubby he is so i am not worried about this being a milk supply issue.

He is 8 months now and I would like to be able to go out for a few hours and not worry about having to race home to feed him.

Every time I try to pump even if my breasts are full
I only get about 10 to 20mls each side. I don’t know what I am doing wrong!

Does anyone else have this issue?

  • I think if your baby wasn’t growing I would be concerned about my supply but sounds like all good in that department maybe the suction tip is to big to grasp onto to your nipple.??? The spectra pump is one of the best maybe try a hospital grade pump if you haven’t already x goodluck ????

  • Maybe try a hakka? They seem to work sometimes better, because of the different suction.

  • I couldn’t pump in am electric pump. Ended up working out I got more a lot quicker hand expressing. Not sure why pumps just didn’t work for me.

  • Spectras are supposed to be amazing?
I honestly could feed but not pump so I used formula when I needed to give a bottle and my daughter was happy with both.

  • Have you tried massaging breast under warm water? This activates the ducts

  • Are you pumping right after feed? Perhaps your little one is just a really efficient feeder and draining your breast so there is nothing left to pump. Try putting your electric pp on one side while bub feeds on the other, it’s a little awkward if you don’t have a hands free pump, but might help stimulate a let down.

  • It may be worth talking to a midwife at a hospital – some of them can be quite helpful.

  • Have you tried using a hakaa? I found I got a lot more milk out from one of these then I did with any other pump.

  • I had the exact same problem when I tried this, I gave up in the end so sorry I don’t have any good advice :(

  • I was having same issue. I found it was as was not relaxed. Try drinking water at the same time or looking at a picture of bibs, this sounds weird but it freakishly worked.

  • Definitely go see a lactation consultant. Get then to check that the you are using the appropriate size for your breast/nipple. They can also advise you on foods that can boost your supply.
I used the Spectra S1 pump and found it amazing.
    Goodluck

  • Have you tried speaking to a lactation specialist?
All our bodies are different and respond in different ways.
My first two babies I was constantly leaking huge amounts of milk and they were constantly feeding… complexing isn’t it. My third baby i barely leaked and she didn’t feed much. I dried up with both my older two at four months even though they were still feeding, however, I stopped feeding number 3 really early on, dried up for a few weeks, but was able to pump and reestablish a supply. I guess your body is so attuned to how much milk your son needs that it doesn’t want to make/waste more?

  • You could try cluster pumping, instead of a regular nursing/pumping session. Sit down with your baby and your pump, and nurse and pump every half-hour to hour for several hours. Some moms find it helpful to do a 2-3 day long power pump every couple of weeks to “super charge” their milk supply. Nurse & pump at the same time so you make use of the natural let down
