Hello!

Hi, I would like to ask the MoM’s what their experiences are with loud toddlers. My son is very vocal, but doesn’t seem to have an in between volume. He can be either silent (or very quiet) or extremely loud and nothing in between! I just wanted to know if others have experienced this and if so, how did they encourage their children to talk quietly?? I am guessing that it is a phase, but wondered if anyone had an tips! Thanks

  • My 5 yr. old is like this, I am constantly telling her to talk quietly, I think they believe they will be heard better if they yell instead of just speak

  • Do you mean when he is talking, playing, upset? If it’s not upsetting I wouldn’t worry about it, his way of expressing himself.

  • I think constant gentle reminder to low down his voice might be what he needs.

  • lol glad im not the only one! I wish there was a tip I could give you but unfortunately Im at a loss aswell 🙁 I think it will just take constant reminders until they grow out of this stage of no volume control!

  • My 4 year old does this sometimes and I talk back at the same loud volume to show him how it sounds (he usually seems shocked) and then i show him the more appropriate volume…helps him understand just how loud he actually was. But I think inside/outside voice is probably a better approach 🙂

  • just getting used to the sounds of their own voices! inside voices/outside voice always tended to work with loud kids for me.

  • teachers often use the phrase indoor voice and out door voice. ie loud voices for out side and inside we talk normally. so you teach them to use their indoor voice when inside and they can scream and shout as much as they like outside.

  • i think it must be a phase as my 2yo is the same.. asways yelling an she doent have a quite voice its jyst normal or loud.. i try to tell her to be quite but doent offten work..
