  • I try and watch my power usage. I walk as much as I can. I also shop at farmers markets and buy things on bulk when on special. I’ve started my own veggie garden, hopefully that will help too

  • I pay $50 per bill each week.. We have Gas, Elec, Water, Radio Rentals, Phone & Net! This is just so we stay in front! I wish we could pay much less, but with 6 of us in this household (my husband, myself & 4 children) – it would mean we’d most likely fall behind. Our rent is $320 per week. I write our meals for the week, then do a shopping list, then search around ‘online’ for where the specials OF THOSE certain products I need are, and then go shopping, getting only what I need.

So having a strict budget, is a must otherwise we just wouldn’t get anywhere, do anything, or keep our heads above water..

  • I have a detailed budget and have a limited amount for groceries budget but delicious meals. With 3 kids (1 boy and 1 teenager and a grazer little girl) amazing how far i can make food go. Plus with 2 gluten free people in the house groceries are expensive.

  • Im seeing a lot of great ideas here, which I will try and heed. I am just so used to using the dryer if needed or putting the heater on, or jumping in the car whenever I have to. While these things are easy for me to use, they are not environmentally friendly or good for the bank account. I am going to go set myself some goals!! Thanks heaps!

  • yeap bills are horrible but you are on the right track, bulk buying and putting some a side for extras is a great idea

  • some great ideas here, if you can put aside a small amount each week for unexpected bills etc, this gives you a buffer. Shop for specials, if you can afford to, buy extra if it is a good special and you use the item regularly. End of season sales are good for buying children’s clothes in the next size.

  • We use a off set account and only pay bills out of that. Money sits there against our mortgage reducing the interest until needed. Also I try and shop once a week at one shop so there is less travel and less temptation.

    • I have heaps of accounts to pay my bills

  • Budget. Pay allocated amount to each bill each pay/month. Shop for specials. Buy in bulk.

  • It’s all about saving some $$$ where ever you can. Often this means shopping around to get the best deals avail on your utilities etc – better in my pocket than theirs. We have both Costco & Aldi opening up in SA soon & I can’t wait. Lets see if I can actually save some $$ on my shopping!
