Hello!

Today I was doing my shopping and it was packed in there with kids and people, just after sport, and there were masses of people everywhere. I managed to manouvure my trolley around all the flying limbs and got to the checkout without too much of an issue. The lady behind me had a little boy who was full of energy and was jumping up and down talking non stop. This poor woman was so on edge, you could see it in the set of her mouth and they way she was dumping all the groceries on the bench. I’d just paid for my stuff and next thing I know she’s cracked it, yelling and screaming at her little son, going off her rocker, throwing things on the floor etc, it was like a full on break in sanity. I tell you, the whole store STOPPED. It was pretty insane. I felt for her – dont we all, but thank god I can say I’ve never had a moment like that out in the shops! have you? How did you feel afterward? I felt so sorry for her, she was obviously overworked, tired, and who knows what, and I just wanted to go over and give her a hug. What would you have done?

  • Oh the poor lady .. maybe a hug would have been good.

  • Hard to stay what I would have done?!

  • I would probably have gone up to her when she’d calmed down a wee bit and asked if there was anything I could do to help. She would have been feeling bad enough, without worrying about other people criticizing her for what happened. I’m sure she was embarrassed afterwards, and wished it had never happened.

  • I can’t ever imagine doing something like that in public, but then again the woman that did it probably didn’t think she would do anything like that in public either. She must have been extremely stressed and all her buttons must have been pushed. I guess all the Mum’s have an idea how she was feeling.

  • Wow! I can’t say I have ever seen anyone do this, but I have on occasion felt like it myself :) I do think it’s important to model appropriate behaviour though, so losing your cool isn’t really all that cool if you know what I mean. That said we have all had times where life seems like it is all too much and we would love to crawl into bed and sleep till everything is better, so I think if i ever see a parent in this situation, I will go up and tell them ‘it’s ok, we all feel like this” as I am sure she would have been getting lots of negative looks from others and would need some support.
