Putting on weight and being pregnant come hand in hand, posting the growing belly pictures is a monthly ritual and everyone seems to be excited about how beautiful and apparently glowing you are, which is all well and good until you give birth and your still lugging around those extra kilos.

I put on about 20kgs while pregnant which was a shock to me but I didn’t mind too much because hey I was pregnant after all and I was active throughout my whole pregnancy, going for bike rides, long walks, laps at the local pool plus I worked up until a week before giving birth in a job where I was on my feet 8 hrs straight running around all day. So I figured my body obviously just needed that extra weight to fuel my baby’s growth.

Now that iv had my beautiful baby girl I have already lost a lot of the weight but iv still got about 5kgs to go before im where I was before. In saying this im still receiving every man and his dogs opinions, the whole “don’t worry it will come off eventually”, “remember it took 9 months to put it on so it might take a while to loose” etc etc.

HOLD ON!!! am I really hearing this from someone who is at least 5kgs bigger than me now, and they never even had a baby. It baffles me that some people have the nerve to lecture women about baby weight when they have there own health and fitness they clearly don’t worry about.

Society needs to wake up and realise its not acceptable to put so much pressure on mothers to loose there baby weight and comments that I shouldn’t worry about how long it will take to loose it when I have already dropped 3 dress sizes isn’t helpful. I gave birth 11 weeks ago now but have been listening to everyone’s annoying opinions since the day I walked out of the hospital.

I seriously hope that all the other mums out there are not being hassled like I have been. I love to respond to these arrogant peoples comments with the fact that I lost 3.5kgs in one day and I ask how long it would take them to loose that???

  • I’m sure they’re probably just trying to be helpful and encouraging. It is difficult to hear all the time though. At least you haven’t been asked when the baby is due when you’re not even pregnant :(

  • I Get lectured all the time as I have only lost a bit of what I put on.
    I was 68 when I fell pregnant and 114 when I was 38 weeks.
Now I sit at 83 and get judged constantly.
I have personal training once a week and work a physically demanding job at night and look after my child in the day.that leaves me with no sleep some days,
Yet people worry about how I look.
How about lend a hand before judging !

  • Then there’s the other side who say you’re losing weight to fast and it can’t be good for the baby (if you’re breast feeding). Can’t win.
