Hello!

I may not be the first woman to give birth at home by accident, but it was certainly an experience I wish to share with the world. It was just as frightening as it was exciting!

I woke up in the morning 4 days over due with my second baby. My 15 month old daughter was being extra cuddly and cute all morning, and I was beginning to wonder whether she was trying to tell me something. Since I was induced with her at 13 days over, I had never experienced a spontaneous labor, or was able to recognize the signs that it was imminent.

Around lunch time, I noticed that I was getting tightenings in my tummy, that were quite uncomfortable, and seemed to happen every half hour or so. as much as i was excited, I tried not to get too worked up, because I went so far over with mu first, I was not expecting anything major to happen!

As the day progressed, so did the tightenings, which I would now refer to as pains. Hubby noticed I was squirming uncomfortably, so i explained what was happening, he began to time them. they were 15-20 mins apart around 5pm. We managed to get my daughter fed and dressed for bed, then called my mum to ask if she could stay at her place tonight as the pains were getting closer and more intense.

By 10pm they were 6-7 mins apart and hurting quite a lot. i called the Midwifery at the hospital and they suggested I wait until they are 4-5 mins apart and then come in. i was far too excited to go to sleep, but around 1am, thought i had better. Well i didn’t get much sleep and around 2:30 decided enough was enough and woke up poor hubby and told him we should head in to the hospital.

When we arrived i was hooked up to the CTG machine and was for an hour, My body decided to stop having a baby, No contractions, No anything… it just stopped! So they gave me the choice to go home and sleep it off.

The second I got into bed, the contractions came hard and fast, i felt like I might throw up, So i tottered myself into the bathroom, and on the way there my waters broke. I then hopped in the shower and let the scalding hot water work its magic on my ever increasing contractions. I then felt like I may pass out, so I called out to my husband to please get me some water. When he got to the bathroom I was throwing up. He then made the decision to call Midwifery and tell them we were on our way back!

Once I stood up to pop some clothes on, i felt the urge to push!! Oh lordy, there was no stopping this baby now! I yelled out to hubby to please call an ambulance, and he instantly went into shock, but called them anyway. I sat on the loo, and ouchies I had to push, nothing would make me feel better. Poor hubby is still telling the ambulance lady our address and out comes babies head. Hubbys face was priceless!!! My mummy instincts kicked in and I knew next push meant the rest of baby was going to fall into the toilet. I grabbed her head, and pulled her out with the next push and there she was, My beautiful baby girl! And there I was naked, on the loo with a baby, and no medical assistance in sight!! Since leaving hospital only an hour and a half had gone by, and I had had a baby!!! Most terrifying and rewarding experience ever!!
