Today i went to the zoo with family, i haven’t been to the zoo before. my kids enjoyed there, they try to touch kangaroo and emu. they saw different different kinds of animals, they really love it. but i didn’t felt good there, i felt so sorry for the animals specially for lion. they were like unhappy. i can’t explain my entire feeling but i felt that the animals life what i have saw in tv and what i saw today is different i think they are more happy in forest jungles not in zoo.
i known its just my opinion or thoughts but i can’t think anything else. can’t diverte my mind can’t stop thinking about them. What should i do. i had negative impact of all that
(( my English is not well so there’s is lots error))

  • I think zoos today are pretty good and the animals well cared for. I think the ones in the 3rd world countries like Thailand and India still treat their zoo animals horrifically

  • We just came back from Adelaide and we took one day out to go to their zoo and it was really great esp the Panda’s. It is true, all animals belong to the wild, but if they didn’t have the zoo then children and families wouldn’t be able to see any of the animals , but from what we have seen , they told us about how they were looked after etc at some of the talk shows and they really do nurture them apart from the fact they had to be locked up , so it is a hard one .

    • Have you been to the Monarto Zoo at all?. It is down near Murray Bridge. The animals are in huge paddocks, mostly from Africa and they have breeding programs. Most of them are very low in numbers, some almost extinct in their natural habitat in Africa. The only ones were saw in a small enclosure were young marakeets, two were only tiny and they had extra shelter in their yard. We went around the zoo in a bus with a guide who had a remote control that opened and closed the gates between paddocks so they can’t attack each other; also we could go through a lot of areas that the general public don’t otherwise have access to. It is on quite a big acreage of land. The dirt roads they use are also there as fire vehicle tracks if needed.
They still have a lot of land which is still natural scrubland.
The majorty of the people who care for the animals and maintain the paddocks etc are volunteers.

  • It is horrible. I’m the same about zoos. I know in some ways they’re good in that they’re protecting endangered animals. But they all seem so sad

  • Animals belong in the wild. I totally agree with that. There is also a place for animals in captivity especially for breeding programs. We are just trying to fix problems that humans have actually caused, but until we can stop hunting and destroying their habitat, breeding programs is one way of trying to preserve a species.

    • One of the best response I’ve read on here. Well thought out and put together.

  • a lot of zoos have breading programs, and also give money to the countries of origin to stop poaching. it’s not all bad.

  • Unfortunately for some of these animals to survive zoos are needed.

  • I haven’t been to the zoo un a long time but we frequent the wild life parks near us as i find the animals have more space to move. And alot aren’t even in cages just roaming around ☺

  • Zoos help many animals from becoming extinct. I understand how you feel with them being in cages. I go to a local wildlife park where the kangaroos are in a huge enclosure and you can touch them.

  • oh! i never known about bred in zoo

  • I agree that it is not natural for the animal; remember that many you see in zoos are bred in captivity and couldn’t survive in the wild.

  • Like many things in life there is the good and the bad. There are good zoos and bad zoos. Zoo’s that promote conservation and provide large and life like habitats are easier to cope with when visiting a zoo. It is such a tricky issue. I do not like performing animals; but I do like the conservation of endangered species.

  • My children love the zoo too. A lot of the enclosures in our zoo are a lot like their natural home.
