Red and Yellow Cotton Baby Blanket. The yarn is washable and anti-bacterial. The blanket itself is a bit heavy and chunky, but it is warm and soft on the skin. It took me around 8-9 months to complete as I am still a beginner.

Material

  • 11 Skeins of Yellow Baby Cotton (Egyptian) Cotton Yarn
  • 11 Skeins of Red Baby Cotton (Egyptian) Cotton Yarn
  • 1 Set of No 4, 5 Bamboo knitting needles.

Method

  1. I used Lion Brand Yarn's pattern generator (for afghans) to help me decide on colours.
  2. Since it was my first project I knitted the whole blanket in garter stitch. Each quadrant was 50 st x 45 rows.
  3. The blanket size is 100cm x 160cm

Notes

This project is a very special one for me, because it is my first knitting project ever. My grandmother taught me how to knit at the age of 24 (better late than never). I decided to have a baby blanket for my first project, because I wanted to knit something special for someone truly special I haven't seen yet :) As a wanna-be mum I can't wait to start using my baby blanket.

I haven’t used bamboo needles before. Must give them a try!

    • They are cool, maybe not as smooth and slippery as the aluminium, but they are definitely light and very convenient!

  • I wish I knew how to knit

    • Hi! It’s not hard a t all – I am still a beginner, but there are so many tutorials and youtube videos explaining every step of the way. You will literally need someone to help you a bit just once or twice till you get an idea and then you would be able to start yourself at least with the easiest stitch – garter. I encourage you to try – it is really fulfilling and very relaxing:)

  • Wow that must have taken a long time to create that lovely masterpiece. I come from a family of knitters, but don’t often do it myself. I take my hat off to people who have the skill and patience for it. Well done 🙂
