10 lucky winners will receive a copy of The Drop-Off by Fiona Harris & Mike McLeish!

The Drop-Off is a hilarious look at the unlikely friendship between three parents who gossip, laugh, drink coffee and would rather keep to themselves at school drop off. A cross between Kitty Flanagan and Liane Moriarty, this is a novel that will make you laugh and cry while reminding us all of the redemptive power of friendship, community, forgiveness… and good coffee!

And it all begins at The Drop-Off.

Written by husband and wife team, Mike McLeish and Fiona Harris, The Drop-off is based on the award-winning, critically acclaimed web series of the same name.

  • Walking to school with Mum, I got a rock in my shoe, after removing my shoe the neighbours dog appeared, stole my shoe with its mouth and took off down the street. Mum had to carry me after it…quite a long distance.

  • The gossiping mothers was a rude introduction to school drop offs.

  • my mums car wouldnt start on cold morning. she tried to hill start, still nothing. A police car drove past offering help. again nothing, so my brother and I were dropped off at primary school in a police car, very cool. they then dropped my mum home……..she was in her dressing gown and slippers, starkers underneath OMG

  • My worst memory was when I was at school … we were running late and mum bundled us into the car and when she dropped us off, we saw her skirt was tucked up into her pants showing her bright pink knickers off to the world – my sister and I were mortified!

  • Getting called out of the car to talk to a teacher, on the Only day I stayed in my old ratty pj’s!

  • Having to walk home (wasn’t far I was just lazy haha)

  • The best and worst was the first day of school. Happy and excited for them but also a little sad to say good bye but then delighted to hear the excitement about the day at pick up.

  • School drop offs, when up until recently usually involved a crying 5-6 year old who would literally follow me back to the car even though she adored school. It was the worst knowing they were breaking down so hard when you knew the moment you were gone they moved into to full enjoyment mode.

  • My kids aren’t school aged but I remember as a child, my mum dropping me off and forgetting to unload my school bag!

  • My son made cupcakes at his kinder and when it was time for pickup he was first in line and he slipped bum up in a patch of grass and cupcake frosting spattered all over the teacher and other students! Brilliant.

  • I remember when I was a kid and we had to borrow grandpa’s car, my sister and I were so embarrassed we made mum parked a block away so no one saw is get out. Now days it works have been a cook car.

  • My mum once dropped me off at school in my pyjamas with no shoes because I had refused to get dressed for school. So embarrassing!

  • Getting to school and realising that I had taken my brothers marmite sandwich not my vegemite sandwich. Major fail.

  • I remember crying hysterically at kindergarten and Mum just having to walk away and leave me! I ran down to the fence and continued to cause a scene! Mum drove away!

  • When my mum picked me up with…our new puppy!!!!

  • Picking up your preschooler when you have “morning sickness” but nobody knows your pregnant and they all assume you have gastro!

  • I love it when my children hug me goodbye and run into school. This is because I know they feel comfortable and love learning and playing with their friends.

  • A few years ago when my daughter was in prep and used to have tantrums most mornings about getting dressed and doing her hair. One morning I had to take her uniform with us to school and her beautiful teacher kindly dressed her for me. Talk about STRESSFUL!!

  • The worst memory is when my Dad dropped me off to high school and reversed onto my foot! Then drove forward and went over it AGAIN!!

  • Worst memory is saying goodbye when my son was 5-7yrs old he use to cry everyday, the separation from me was hard for him it was soo hard to leave him crying but the good memories the teachers looked after him
