Hello!

Hi, my house is riddled with spiders! The huntsmans and daddy long legs are not mych of a concern as they stay out of the way but the whitetails (im sure they are on steroids) are everywhere in my home! Floor, ceiling, shower, bed..everywhere! I’ve been using bug sprays along skirting boards and any where my son can’t get to but no luck they seem to be getting worse. He crawls and cruises and not sure if it’s safe to use bug bombs or what to do about the infestation. Able to leave the house for probably 12 hours max. Any advice would be great, I’ve already been bitten (harmless huntsman) but extremely worried about my son.

  • It’s a serious problem and I would call the professionals on this one. Not worth the risk.

  • I would consider this a very serious problem. When my children were very young we had an infestation of earwigs and ants. The day I picked my baby up from his cot and an earwig was underneath him I called Pest Exterminators. It took a few weeks to take effect and slowly they disappeared and I could relax. You must deal with a reputable exterminator to get good results. We refreshed our exterminating exercise every year for a long time as I needed the piece of mind. Don’t ignore this problem please. Good luck.

  • Best to seek some expert advice regarding the risk.

  • if you are renting you can get the landlord to spray. usually they will only pay for the cheap and basic spray so have a talk to them and explain that it is spiders. otherwise get the full package done and they will get up in your roof and drill little holes around the perimeter of your fence to spray stuff in that really keeps bugs from coming in that way. they will advise you to leave the house for a few hours to let everything settle and then you can’t mop for a week. try to seal up the house a bit better if you can, find all those gaps and spaces. be really thorough. we have a garage door and there is little gaps on either side that let creepy crawlies in but i never noticed until i got down to floor level to check everything out. i think that you could surface spray outside the doors and windows. i don’t really have a spider problem but in rentals, in the past it has been cockroaches and mice. as with everything, eliminate any clutter and keep it organised so they have less places to live. good luck.

  • It would be worth getting an exterminator in. There are some that use only child and pet safe products. I wouldn’t use a bug bomb.
