Playdoh, painting, drawing, crafty things. Even just playing on the floor with them with building blocks etc it helps them I prove their fine motor skills. Great item for a book also!
Love some of the ideas here! I also have a 19 month old, and he gets a bit frustrated on rainy or cold days because he can’t go out. Last rainy day I waited til it stopped raining & we went stomping in the puddles with gumboots on.
We do lots of colouring in and watching TV shows together on cold or rainy days.
At that age I found anything that wasn’t a toy they want to play with. You can try spoons, safe cooking utensils, straws, dry rice in a clear plastic bottle, even old mobile phones (remove the battery & any cards).
Make indoor cubbies under tables using blankets draped over the top, have a picnic lunch in there. Hilarious fun! Drawing with crayons and chalk. My son used to love to watch (and help make a mess) me bake. Make a mum and son band with any of his music toys, also hilarious for them!
Trip to the Library, take home some books, dvds. my little man is wiggle mad, so a good old sing along. Also loves Playdoh. Swimming at the local pool. Bath during the day. My son also loves cooking so make a cake together (It does get abit messy). Trip to a play centre.
Thanks heaps everyone that all helps and cant wait too try your idea’s! His 20 months tomorrow and he goes to day care 3 days a week when his at home he just gets to bored and frustrated I give him lots of toys and his not interested in them… I was at a loss as too what to do you all have great ideas so thankyou
Some good tips, I have two kids around that age. Good thing because they keep each other company. I do some rhyme time with them. They love books, u know the ones that are bright colored with lots of pictures and little words. Some coloring crafts and lots of dancing. But cubby house is the best one they love it. We also put a blanket on the dining table and viola and last but not the least, toys. They can play with then for hours
On cold wet days ( happens nearly everyday over winter) arts and crafts and
A big hit here. The kids favourites are salt clay, pasta pictures, makes cars out of boxes, canvas painting( I’ve added a picture so I hope it works, peanut butter play dough and colouring.
My most favorite thing for cold and rainy days is covering the dining table with blankets and making an indoor cubby. They are great for crawling into and reading books by torch light, having picnics and just general playing with stuffed toys, etc
Any arts and crafts are good, I rug the kids ip and take them for cold walks to show them not to be afraid of the cold, and we collect leaves and make pictures of them when we come home!
