Hello!

My 18mth old son has started to become very aggressive. Pinching, scratching, hitting, pulling hair… He mainly does it when he is frustrated or angry, I can see that, but sometimes he does it from what it seems to be no reason. At times we will smack his hand, and that’s to show him what he is doing to other, but other then that it’s a firm voice making it known we aren’t happy. It doesn’t seem to be working. I don’t know what else to do, because he was never this rough. He does go to daycare 3 times a week. His teachers say he is fine there and Never this way. So it has me stumped. Any advice personal stories, anything would be appreciated, thank you.

  • Because he can’t communicate his needs he he will need you to give him the words. Also, if he is getting attention from the bad behaviour he will keep doing it. Try saying a simple no and giving no other reaction

  • My son did the same. Could just be a phase.. here’s hoping

  • My little one is aggressive too and is from frustration, hunger or being tired. He knows he shouldn’t and I’m hoping when he can express himself better it will lessen. In the meantime we are attempting to manage the behaviour and not reward it.

  • Little ones of this age can’t speak up so often act out instead, I’m pretty sure childcare would be some what yo blame too

  • There must be a reason behind that aggressive behaviour, was he aggressive before starting the childcare or it started after he joined the child care. My 3 years old get aggressive and stubborn because I am pregnant and I cannot carry him as I did before or running around him all the time. There is always a reason behind child’s behaviour.
